Auckland for under £2000

I recently wrote an article about target prices for business class which you can read here.

Generally, anything £2200 or under is good for business class to Australia or New Zealand. Average prices are usually over £3000 for premium airlines such as Emirates, Cathay or Singapore from the UK in business class. So today’s deal is definitely an excellent fare price wise. There is also a great choice of good airlines but the catch is the itineraries all involve two stops via Frankfurt or Zurich followed by somewhere in Asia such as Singapore.

With getting to Paris as well it’s a long trip, but Roving Reporter and I did a similar type of trip to New Zealand. If you add in a stopover at least one way, it is actually fine. Singapore would be a great stopover place as there is plenty to do but you can also add in a bit of pool time too. Hong Kong and Tokyo are also route options which would allow a worthwhile stopover.

The fare is from Paris on Star Alliance Airlines including Swiss, Lufthansa, Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines. Although I have found one itinerary that included Cathay Pacific for one leg if you are after BA Avios and tier points.

  • Book by: 16 May
  • Travel: Before 31 March 2020
  • Minimum stay: 5 nights or a Saturday night
  • Maximum stay: 3 months
  • Transfers: Unlimited
  • Stopovers: One in each direction for €100
  • Refundable: No
  • Changeable: For a fee

You can book with Expedia here or find the cheapest online travel agent price with Skyscanner.

Marriott Avios promotion

If you want to collect some extra Avios and have some hotel stays planned, the latest Marriott BA promotion may be of interest. BA Executive Club members can earn 500-1000 bonus Avios at Marriott brands for stays completed and booked between 1 June – 31 August 31, 2019. The promotion covers hotels in Europe only.

The following brands are included at participating hotels:  Marriott Hotels®, Renaissance® Hotels, The Ritz-Carlton®, Marriott Vacation Club®, JW Marriott®, Autograph Collection®, EDITION®, Delta Hotels by Marriott®, Le Meridien®, The Luxury Collection®, Sheraton®, St. Regis®, Tribute Portfolio®, W® Hotels, Westin®, Marriott Executive Apartments®, Courtyard by Marriott®, Residence Inn® by Marriott, AC Hotels by Marriott®, MOXY® Hotels, Aloft®, Element by Westin®, Four Points® by Sheraton in Europe.

You can access this offer on Marriott Bonvoy’s offer page here.

To take advantage you must have your Bonvoy earning preference set to miles and British Airways Executive Club as the preferred one. If you collect Bonvoy points you would probably better off sticking with them unless for short, cheap stays. But if you don’t think you would get enough Bonvoy points to use then this makes a decent alternative to wasting them.

Boarding pass discounts

Did you know that certain airlines give discounts with their boarding passes for attractions, dining and more in their home city? Singapore Airlines has done this for a long time. Roving Reporter and I used ours to get a discount on a lovely foot massage in Changi whilst we were killing time before a flight. Singapore offers discounts on accommodation such as the historic Goodwood Park Hotel, attractions such as the Gardens by the Bay and Flyer, food and drink with the Raffles Long Bar being amongst the options and airport discounts too.

You can find the full list of discounts here.

Emirates has also announced that they resurrecting the My Emirates Pass discounts scheme  – an offer that turns an Emirates boarding pass into an exclusive membership card providing discounts of up to 50% off in more than 500 leisure and retail outlet locations across the UAE.

Emirates passengers flying to and through Dubai between 1 May and 31 August 2019 can take advantage of My Emirates Pass by simply presenting their boarding pass and a valid form of identification in any of the participating outlets.

The pass allows customers to redeem up to 50% off in over 400 fine dining restaurants, luxury wellness treatments in almost 50 spas and leisure activities such as indoor skiing and water amusement parks. Customers can also take advantage and redeem up to 30% off at shops too.

  1. I’ve been watching Auckland flights for a while for a holiday in Q1 2020.

There’s a good offer on Google Flights from Stockholm on Singapore via Moscow (1 hour technical stopover on same flight) and Singapore for £1980. Unfortunately there’s a 17 hour layover in Singapore on the return leg but it would work well with a stopover.

    • Thanks. Yes that is a regular fare and the one that I did with Roving Reporter last year. Again it’s a lot of flights but we did rack up some nice VS miles as a result!

Hi, been toying with options for the past week, but not sure how i book a stopover on the PARIS to AUCKLAND deal please? I used skyscanner to find deal, which gives me a link to Tavelgenio, but not sure how to add a stopover in Hong Kong…

  3. Hi, I have been trying to book the Paris to Akl as above but with no joy, I have tried multi-city, Paris to Frankfurt and Frankfurt onto both either Singapore or Hong Kong. Do you have any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong? They sound like great fares. Thanks for your help and it’s a great site.
