Yesterday I wrote about Virgin’s Black Friday week deals including £1 economy golden tickets. Today they have released the next phase of their offer with £50 off flights to Asia. Personally, these prices are very underwhelming, but it is always worth seeing if a flight + hotel deal is any better value. I would expect that best deals we will see will be to the US.
Premium Economy flights start from
- London Heathrow (LHR) – Hong Kong (HKG) £742
- London Heathrow (LHR) – Shanghai (PVG) £720 (read our guide to Shanghai here)
- London Heathrow (LHR) – Mumbai (BOM) £825
Upper Class flights start from
Vietnam Airlines Black Friday sale
Vietnam Airlines are already an airline to watch with a young fleet of aircraft and a growing route network from the UK to Asia and Australia. With the Virgin merger now approved, Skyteam miles will become much more useful. As yet we don’t know the exact details but we know that if you credit miles to Air France or KLM then you should be able to redeem them on Virgin and vice versa.
Vietnam Airlines have a special offer for Black Friday with 10% off both domestic and international fares. Their business class has a modern seat with a 1-2-1 configuration on their B787 that flies from London. It’s the same seat that Cathay Pacific, Finnair and Qatar use. I have only flown with them on short-haul, but found the service and food to be very good. They also have a great bidding system for upgrades which for me I have got every time, sometimes at bargain prices! The offer ends on Friday 29 November.

Finnair Black Friday sale from London – Asia from £1298 business class return
The new Finnair Black Friday sale is a bit underwhelming compared to the recent Qatar companion sale ex EU prices. However, for the ease of travelling from the UK with only one stop, they are worth considering. These are also the best fares we have seen from Finnair for a while. The prices are also much less than you pay with BA. The Australia prices are pretty much as good as I have seen on a oneworld carrier from the UK other than the very rare flash Qatar offers. You can get cheaper flying with the Chinese airlines, but it depends on what your priorities are.
You earn Avios and Tier points on Finnair like Qatar, albeit slightly less. On Qatar, you will earn 560 for most ex EU flights to Asia. This compares to 440 with Finnair or 280 with British Airways for most Asian destinations.
The Finnair A350 is a good product with very similar seats to Qatar. You can read my review here. The A350 is available from Heathrow to Helsinki on one flight a day usually, which means you can travel in comfort the whole way.
The A330 is not quite as good, but still a good business class seat with 1-2-1 configuration and flatbeds. They are similar to the Iberia seats with alternating layouts of the side console.
A sample of the most interesting sale prices are below. You must book by 2 December 2019.
