There is a wide range of offers around for business and first class this week. Istanbul has popped up as the latest hot spot to get cheap fares due to the currency crash. This may not be for everyone due to the political situation but if you do decide to have a look, bear in mind that the constant currency fluctuations make it difficult to know the exact price due to conversion rates.

Etihad to join Star Alliance?

Etihad sale

Although nothing definite has been announced it looks like Etihad are at last looking at joining an alliance, probably Star Alliance. As reported in Arabian business, Etihad CEO Tony Douglas, said they could be looking at making closer links with airlines within the Star Alliance network.

“In the past, the Etihad Group was identified as being an alliance itself and, consequently, under the rules of Star Alliance, its members were not allowed to engage in collaboration with us on codeshares,” Douglas said. Unfortunately for Etihad several of the members of their own alliance are no longer in operation such as Air Berlin or Niki with Alitalia also on shaky ground currently.

Etihad has been struggling financially making a large loss partly due to a series of disastrous investments in other airlines. An alliance would be good news as currently there are very limited options for crediting Etihad flights to other airlines loyalty schemes.
