Business class deals to Australia and New Zealand
It’s getting to that time of year where you may be thinking about planning your trip Down Under for winter 2018/19. There are some good deals around at the moment although nothing like we have seen in some Qatar sales. Seeing as there hasn’t been a proper Qatar sale for a while, you may choose to wait and see if one pops up.
However, there are a few interesting options around to consider. I regard anything under £2500 as a decent deal from the UK and from outside the UK under £2300 to allow for positioning. Most cheaper options include extra stops which is the trade-off for a cheaper flight. I also would look at the business class product you are getting. There is no point paying very slightly less for a far inferior business class seat and then spending 24 hours being uncomfortable.
Here are the best deals:
Heathrow to Sydney £1856 business class return
This deal is with Garuda, a 5* rated Skytrax airline. The seats are good and in a 1-2-1 configuration and the service excellent. The catch is that the flight requires two stops, one in Jakarta and one in Bali. The good news is that stopovers are free and unlimited so personally I can’t think of a better place to stop off than Bali! The tickets are non-changeable and non-refundable.
The cheapest prices are on Garuda’s website.
Scandinavia to Australia and New Zealand from £1680
Etihad have a great business class product on their A380 and the other aircraft types still have all aisle access seats although they look a little dated now. These fares start at £1680 but they do mean 2 stops on the way – one in Europe and then one in Abu Dhabi. The good news is that the Sydney flights is on the A380 so you would only have the older business class on a short segment. You can read my review of Etihad’s A380 business studio here.
Singapore Airlines from £2097 to Auckland
A350 bed in bulkhead seatsThis is the deal Roving Reporter and I did to Auckland. The downside is that you have to stop in Moscow but you do get back onto the same aircraft and the stop is brief. The whole process was very quick and painless. You can usually add stop offs to the fare in Singapore as we did although it can add slightly to the price.
The other positive is that Singapore uses the A350 on this route to Singapore and this was the largest bed I have ever had in business class due to the wide seat. The food and service were also excellent. You can buy the flights through Expedia as we did and get the best choice of seats during booking.

Qatar Airways from £2098
Whilst Qatar’s fares from Scandinavia (Oslo is the cheapest departure point) are cheap compared to deals from London, personally, I would wait a few weeks and see if an offer comes up as Australia and New Zealand are often between £1400-1800 from Scandinavia (and sometimes the UK) during sales. If you can’t wait it is still a good price with Qatar’s fantastic service though be aware that they use B777 on the Auckland route which has the 2-2-2 configuration older seats, although I do find these very wide and comfortable.
You can book with Qatar Airways.
30% extra Avios with Rocket Miles
Rocketmiles is very similar to Kaligo, which I have written about a few times. Instead of earning cash back you can use sites such as Kaligo and Rocketmiles to book your hotel. You then earn airlines miles from a wide variety of programs (including Avios). If you are considering using one of these sites it is always worth comparing with TopCashback to see which offers the better deal. Your best bet is usually to use Rocketmiles or Kaligo during a promotion. They are sometimes slightly more expensive in terms of hotel pricing so it pays to compare that too. Agoda is often a better option as prices of hotels are cheaper although you do get less Avios.
Rocketmiles are offering 30% extra Avios until 30 June 2018. The bonus is available on stays until 16 May 2019. To be eligible for this promotion, you must have enrolled with Rocketmiles, selected British Airways Executive Club Avios as the earning preference and book through www.rocketmiles.com/baec-more when making the reservation. Jumeirah Emirates Tower offer from £249pp for 3 nights
Despite never having stayed myself, I know that Jumeirah Emirates Tower is well regarded by everyone I know who has stayed there. It has a central location but also offers access to their sister hotel, Jumeirah Beach Hotel’s private beach and free access to Wild Wadi waterpark as well as a free shuttle to the beach and Downtown Dubai.
There is a new offer from Voyage Prive which covers both the summer and winter months starting at £249pp for 3 nights bed and breakfast.
The offer includes a Premier Deluxe Room with views of Dubai’s city skylines from high floors. Premier rooms are equipped with a spacious bathroom with separate shower, upgraded amenities and a state-of-the-art media hub. Jumeirah Emirates Towers also has an open sky swimming pool, Talise spa, Health club and numerous restaurants and bars.
When you stay in a Premier Deluxe Room you receive complimentary suit pressing service on arrival (for two pieces) and buffet breakfast at Mundo restaurant is also included in the room rate.
Although the rate is similar on some dates or even slightly more expensive than the cheapest online deals I could find, you do get a couple of other perks which are worth considering if you would use them:
- 500 AED (about £100) per room, per stay worth of Credit to be used on food and beverages at either Legoland, Megoland Water Park, Motiongate & Bollywood Park.
- 1 ticket for Dubai Parks per person (access to 2 parks as above for one day)
You can also just pay a 30% deposit if you are booking 35 days in advance and spending over £500 per person.
The offer is with Voyage Privé who are a very similar company to Secret Escapes. As usual, it is worth checking the rates for the hotels elsewhere as they are not always the cheapest when you take into account discounts such as TopCashback. You need to join Voyage Prive here (free) to access their offers.
