BA buy on boardbuy on board

New summer BA Buy on board (BOB) menu

BA introduced buy on board in January last year on short-haul flights from Heathrow and Gatwick. Flights operated by BA CityFlyer to and from London City, London Stansted, Birmingham, Bristol, Dublin, Edinburgh or Manchester were due to implement the BOB menu in October 2017. The latest from BA suggest it will be introduced in 2018 but no firm date has been given.

I wrote about the introduction with the menu in this article. BA at the time promised us a ‘seasonally inspired menu’. As usual, I’m not sure there is anything very seasonal about the choices but at least there are some new options for regular travellers.

Flight offers

Portland with BA/AA in business from £1092

View of Portland, Oregon from Pittock Mansion.

There are ongoing offers to Portland with a variety of airlines at around £1400 including BA which I wrote about here. However, if you are willing to take a slight detour you can get the flights from £1085. This involves starting your journey in Jersey which has no APD. However, you can come back to Heathrow for the same price.

There are a few drawbacks though. Firstly, it involves two stops plus you have to get from Gatwick to Heathrow after the flight from Jersey although you could build in an overnight stop of less than 24 hours. You can get a fixed price chauffeur transfer with mydriver by Sixt – you can find more details here. Secondly, some of the connecting flights are on Alaskan which only gets Avios not Tier points so choose carefully. However, if you choose an American transfer via Seattle, for example, you could get 400 tier points not including any positioning flight.

Rules:

  • For travel until 6 October 2018
  • Must be booked 28 days in advance
  • Must stay a Saturday night
  • Must be booked by 8 May (today!)

Flights must be booked via American Airlines but the flights can be on British Airways aircraft on the transatlantic flights.

New York/Boston/Chicago with BA from £1184 business or Chicago from £1699 First class

Chicago

Yet again Inverness is providing ex EU price fares but from within the UK, partly due to the lack of APD. The fares are for First and business class on British Airways to Chicago, New York and Boston via Heathrow. The rules are:

  • Must be booked 28 days in advance
  • Must stay a Saturday night

New York and Boston in Club from Inverness are from £1184 (November onwards for cheapest price). Chicago starts at £1269.

You can book your tickets on British Airways here. Don’t forget that British Airways also has fares from £1322-1550 to most US destinations in Club when you book 6 months in advance (excludes Hawaii).

  1. The lack of gluten free options yet again is disappointing.

    • Yes if you want a sandwich you are out of luck. I think the selection is a bit disappointing generally compared to the low cost airlines.

  2. What dates for the ex INV F fare? Can’t find it on BA

Have your say
