Summer 2021 West Coast US from £994

I previously wrote about the Sofia to US travel deal with prices under £1000 to the West Coast. The offer is back for flights to Los Angeles only starting at £994 with availability from April onwards.

Sofia is also in the higher band for short-haul Avios earning and gets 160 TPs return. With fares to Sofia from London at around £150 in Club currently, if you routed Sofia-London-New York-Los Angeles return for example you could get 880 TPs for around £1150. With the rules below, it does look like you could go even further and add in another European stop and one via San Francisco too. This would mean you could technically route Sofia-London-New York-San Francisco-Los Angeles for example which would give an extra 80TPs return. Another option is to fly Sofia-London-Helsinki-New York-Los Angeles which adds in another 160 TPs return so a total of 1040 return for £1150. Add in the San Francisco legs as well and you are up to 1120TPs.

The rules:

You can fly on any oneworld airline but the cheapest tickets are issued by American Airlines.

Get Marriott points on new hotels in Barbados, Costa Rica and Cancun for a  limited time

The House Barbados

Last year Marriott announced that they had purchased Elegant Hotels which are mainly in Barbados. From early next year you will be able to earn and redeem Marriott points with the hotels. However, if you are headed to Barbados, you can now book and earn points if you book before Thursday 15 October 2020, and travel before 31 May 2021.

Elegant owns and operates seven hotels and a beachfront restaurant on the island of Barbados. Six of the seven properties are situated along the prestigious west coast of Barbados commonly known as the “Platinum Coast.” The majority of Elegant properties are operated as all-inclusive resorts. The hotels are: – Colony Club, Tamarind, The House, Crystal Cove, Turtle Beach, Waves Hotel & Spa and Treasure Beach. There is also The Westin Reserva Conchal, An All-Inclusive Golf Resort & Spa and Armar House, All-Inclusive in Cancun.

I will be staying at a couple of the hotels on my Barbados trip and doing a full review.

You can find details of the offer on this page.

Get £5 free with Quidco

Quidco offers cashback on many online shopping and travel sites and is very similar to Topcashback. The two tend to alternate offers so it is worth being a member of both so you are always covered. There are a number of airlines you can get cashback with including Qatar, Etihad, Lufthansa, and Aer Lingus. Most major travel agents online are featured and many of the hotel chains.

Their offers on Accor brands such as Sofitel are also pretty good with up 20% off. If you click through to book on a hotel’s own booking site you still get all your perks as usual. The only disadvantage versus Topcashback is that you can’t convert the cashback to Avios. They do have other ways to get a bonus when you convert such as Uber and shopping vouchers or you can just have cash. There are two levels of membership. The Premium memberships gets you up to an extra 10% cashback and better bonuses when you withdraw cash. It costs just £1 per month from your cashback, but nothing if you have not received any cashback that month.

They have a new offer if you sign up before 18 October and earn £5 in cashback. When you have earned £5 cashback you will get an extra £5 free if you join using this link.

Isn’t SFO – LAX only 40TP. I calculate this routing above to be 960TP?

  2. Can you give an example of flight scheduling in May 2021, please, as when I try on Google flights I get message ‘Something has gone wrong’? Must be doing something wrong
