British Airways Holidays extends Double tier points
One of the best ways to keep status is to book any trips as a BA Holiday rather than a separate flight as you get double tier points on BA Holidays if you meet certain criteria. This was due to end by 30 September 2023, but the good news is that it has been extended to 31 December 2023.
The advantages of booking as a BA Holiday is that it can sometimes work out cheaper and you only have to pay a small deposit until eight weeks before. So I tend to use this option for trips far in the future rather than leave my money sitting in BA’s account. You also get extra Avios – 1 Avios per £1 spent.
There is one main drawback, getting hold of BA Holidays is often worse than for BA itself and there is no separate priority lines for status. However, if you have GGL, the agents on the GGL line will usually deal with BA Holidays issues for you now.
If you were put off by the double-tier points not crediting, BA managed to fix that and they are now crediting after about 7 days which is a huge improvement. The official guaranteed time to credit is 14 days of the return flight now instead of 60.
There is due to be a winter sale shortly, probably before Christmas if you are tempted to book.
To get the double tier points, you need to be very careful about what you book to make sure you meet the criteria:
- You must travel by 31 December 2023
- You must book a holiday of a least 5 days which can consist of a flight plus 5 hotel nights or 5 days car hire or both.
- The whole booking does not need be with BA Holidays – so you can book a 10 day trip for example and have 5 days car hire or hotel and flights with BA and then go off with your own hotel/car bookings. This has changed from before when you had to book the whole trip with BA.
- You must start in the UK.
- The booking must contain British Airways flights including codeshares and British Airways marketed and/or operated flights only
- It is possible to get the points with domestic flights if it meets the rest of the criteria.
- It does not apply if you add the hotel or car to an existing booking. However, it does apply to existing BA Holidays bookings providing your executive club number is on the booking.

The Hilton sale isn’t worth going for unless you are staying soon.
It saves little over the cancellable rate and it means that you are locked into the booking at that price.
I find that often prices come down in price so I suspect that I would save more than the small discount in some cases.
Plus I remain free to cancel or change the booking, plus my money stays in my account.
