Finnair fares to the Far East

Finnair UK sale

Finnair A350 Business class

Finnair has some promotional fares to the Far East currently. They are not as good as when they have a full sale on, but if you need to book a trip now you may want to have a look. I flew on Finnair’s new A350 recently and you can read the review here. In summary, the seats are better than BA but not as a good as Qatar. The advantage of Finnair is that you can fly from Heathrow for a very reasonable price and still earn Avios and Tier Points. Helsinki is a nice airport to transit through with a decent lounge. You can travel up to 30 June 2018 but you need to book 60 days in advance. You can also have a free stopover in Helsinki one way.

The A350 aircraft currently flies once daily from Heathrow currently but check when you make the booking which aircraft it is. The routes in bold have the A350 from Helsinki.

The fares are from:

  • Bangkok £1599
  • Guangzhou £1770
  • Beijing £1870
  • Delhi £1575
  • Hong Kong £1965
  • Seoul £1899
  • Singapore £1909
  • Shanghai £2000

You can find the sale page here.

Emirates business class sale

If you are an Avios collector or BA status holder, you may not have considered flying on Emirates. It is not always widely known that you can collect both Avios and Tier points on Emirates providing you book under the Qantas code share. As long as your Emirates flight is booked under a Qantas (QF) flight number and not an Emirates (EK) flight number, you will receive Avios points when you fly. Not all Emirates flights operate under the codeshare but a large number of destinations are available. For Tier points the BA website states:

Flights booked under the Qantas code (QF) operated by a non-oneworld airline will earn Avios and Tier Points unless operated by Jetstar in a class other than L class.

Emirates have a good business class product overall but there is a wide variety of seat types and configurations.  Some aircraft have 2-3-2 which is not ideal for most travellers. Make sure you check which aircraft it is before making a booking. Seatguru would be a good way to check. There is also the on-board bar to enjoy on the A380. I saw the new design earlier this year and it is much less ‘bling’ than the previous ones. Another advantage of Emirates business class is the Emirates free chauffeur service which is available in 55 countries.

The sale is available for flights until 7th December 2017 and must be booked by 16th August 2017. A lot of the prices are not great but the ones that seem the best value are below.

  • Bangkok from £1897
  • Phuket from £2001
  • Dubai from £2209
  • Hong Kong from £2256
  • Perth £2799

London hotel offers & how to hold your Secret Escapes hotel before committing to purchase

Langham hotel London review

Langham Hotel London

There are currently some good deals worth mentioning on Secret Escapes, particularly if you are looking for a last minute break to London. I have just booked the Langham Hotel for a very reasonable price on Secret Escapes for this month. The Langham hotel is due to open its new spa on the 22 August and they also recently opened an additional bar based on a traditional London pub. The Langham has a great central location a few minutes walk from Oxford Circus and one of the best bars in London, Artesian. I visited the Langham in January and was very impressed with my stay. You can read my review here and read more on TripAdvisor.

If I had booked a deluxe room through other websites it would cost £440 for my dates but on Secret Escapes you can get the same room including breakfast for a much more reasonable £340. The offer is valid for stays between August and October 2017 and must be booked by Tuesday 15th August. You can also book an Executive room for £420 which includes access to the superb lounge which serves Perrier-Jouet champagne all days along with afternoon tea, evening snacks and breakfast.

Secret Escapes is a members only website with hand-picked hotels, holidays and exclusive offers. They guarantee to offer the best rates online during a sale. Every week they run up to 140 short ‘flash sales’ lasting around ten days each. It is free to join and if you use this link to sign up you will receive £15 credit off your first booking.

When I was booking this time I noticed a useful feature on Secret Escapes. You can now hold your room until the end of the sale for £25. This sounds like a lot but you either get the £25 back if you book the hotel or you can use it as a future credit on another hotel. If you are certain that you will use Secret Escapes in the future it is well worth doing if you are not 100% sure about dates.

If you don’t fancy the Langham, Secret Escapes is also featuring the new 5* Boutique hotel LaLit which is near Tower Bridge from £209 B&B which scores 5/5 on TripAdvisor. There is the 5* Athenaeum Hotel for £189 B&B as well which is in Mayfair and has been newly refurbished. Both offers also expire on Tuesday 15th August.
