Three nights for the price of two on Conrad & Waldorf in Europe
Earlier this year I wrote about a new offer available for Hilton’s upmarket brands, Conrad and Waldorf Astoria through specialist travel agents. The offer is for hotels in Europe and is being run by PrivateUpgrades and other specialist luxury agents. This is a members-only travel club, with more than 20 years of experience, which provides you with luxury accommodation for both leisure and business trips and gives members added value on hotel bookings. It is free to join. PrivateUpgrades is similar to many other Virtuoso type travel agents that offer extra perks on bookings with chain hotels. You can still get points for your stay usually too.
The offer is for 8 hotels in Europe where you stay 3 nights but only pay for 2. This offer is valid for stays until 30 September 2020 but is going to be extended until the end of the year. Different hotels have different end dates too. You will also receive an upgrade upon availability, free breakfast, USD 100 hotel credit, and double Hilton Honor points. You must book the “PrivateUpgrades Hilton Rate” in order for the promotion to be applied.
Included in the offer is one of my favourites – the Conrad Algarve in Portugal.
The full list is:
- Conrad Algarve (only doing fifth night free)
- Waldorf Astoria Versailles
- Rome Cavalieri, a Waldorf Astoria hotel
- Waldorf Astoria Berlin
- Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh, The Caledonian
- The Biltmore Mayfair (see my review here)
- Conrad Dublin
- Conrad London St James ( see recent review here)
Banyan Tree offer for up to 80% off for 2021
Another offer that has popped back up again is the Banyan Tree offer. They are again offering gift certificates which means you don’t need to book for a specific date as long as you stay by 21 December 2021. Banyan Tree hotels are now part of Accor and are a luxury, one of kind type of hotels with a focus on wellness. Angsana hotels are also included. You need to book by 2 September 2020.
There is a great selection of beautiful hotels such as the Bangkok Banyan Tree with its stunning rooftop bar and restaurant or the Banyan Tree Bintan with villas perched on the edge of cliffs. If you don’t want to chance Asia, Morocco, and the Maldives are also included.
Once you have bought your gift certificate, you can redeem it online by making a booking through the link received in your Gift Certificate. Then input your Gift Certificate code into the Additional Details and Preferences field.
There are a couple of notes of caution, the gift certificates can not be refunded or extended beyond 21 December 2021.
Thanks to Reader Jim for the heads up.
Iberia 50% off redemptions
Iberia Avios redemptions are often much better value than British Airways, but obviously you do still have the hassle of getting to Madrid to start a flight. They have launched a new deal that offers 50% off all redemptions until 30 August 2020. You can travel until the end of March 2021 and can fly on Iberia, Iberia Express and Air Nostrum. The flights must be booked through an Iberia Plus account.
I always recommend that people have an Iberia Plus account as well as a BA Avios, even if you never collect any Avios with Iberia. This is because Iberia usually does some great promotions. Unfortunately, some of the best offers require you to have been a member of the scheme for at least 90 days, so it’s best to just join now if you haven’t already. For Iberia Plus you need to earn at least 1 Avios before you can partake of some of the offers.
You can quickly move Avios between the schemes but with Iberia Plus you can only do this when your account is at least 90 days old, and you have ‘earned’ 1 Avios. This can be done by transferring Amex or hotel reward points or earning them on a flight, car hire or hotel. For example, a cheap economy ticket where you are not worried about the tier points for BA is ideal to credit to Iberia as you can always transfer the Avios back out.
The current offer has one big catch in that you need to be registered in Spain. Some people have been able to see the discounted prices even though they are not registered in Spain but I certainly can’t. To get around this you need to change the country on the address to Spain but make sure you have a payment card on file first. You will need to add a Spanish city and postcode for it to accept the change as well.
It is hard to predict where Iberia will fly over the winter and it’s also hard to predict what will be open before the end of March to UK tourists and not on the quarantine list. Here is Iberia’s winter schedule at the moment:

You can read more about Iberia redemptions in this article, but with the half-price offer you can expect to pay off-peak return with the offer in business class:
- New York, Boston, Chicago, San Juan Puerto Rico for 34,000 Avios plus £158
- Miami for 42,500 Avios + £175
- Buenos Aires, Santiago for 51,000 + £198.90
- Johannesburg, Havana, Lima, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Miami, Panama, Quito, Rio de Janeiro, San Jose, Costa Rica, Santo Domingo, Sao Paulo for 51,000 Avios
- Tokyo or Shanghai for 59,500 Avios
If you have an eligible Iberia account, this is a low-risk promotion as the booking is refundable minus a small fee and the cash outlay is low as well.
Iberia has good business class seats and reasonable onboard service. You can read our reviews here.
