The Lufthansa/Swiss group is now advertising their latest companion sale after a dismal Black Friday offering. These fares are great value but you need to consider a couple of things.

  • Firstly, the group insists on no fabric masks onboard, only surgical masks or those conforming to certain standards such as N95.
  • Secondly, transmitting through a second country obviously adds complexity with travel restrictions. Obviously, if you are booking for towards the end of 2022 it is likely to be less of an issue.

On the plus side, the first class experience on both airlines is great, particularly at these prices.

Here are the dates you need to know:

  • Travel dates 7th January 2022 until 14th December 2022.
  • The sale is on until 11 January 2022

The sale is available from multiple starting countries. In the UK you can depart from London, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle upon Tyne, and Liverpool.

Here is a selection of some of the UK fares:

The offer is also valid for many other worldwide destinations and departure points in Europe as prices can be slightly cheaper than from the UK. You can find the offer page here.

You can fly on Lufthansa or Swiss. I would go for Swiss myself as the aircraft as their B777 business class seats are definitely better than Lufthansa with a lot more privacy. You can read our review of the Lufthansa business class here and here. Swiss alternate between solo and pair of window seats. Lufthansa is 2-2-2 for the whole cabin.

Current Lufthansa business class

The only thing to bear in mind is that if you are traveling solo and don’t have status, the Swiss solo “throne seats” come at a charge of around £160 per leg! Personally, I would go for the middle seats at least one way than pay over £300 for seat selection.

Swiss First Class sale

Swiss First class

For first class either airline has a great product. Lufthansa has the edge in terms of the ground product in normal times with a separate First class terminal and the chance to be driven directly to the aircraft. The Swiss seats are more private and a bit more stylish.

You can book direct with Swiss here or find the cheapest online travel agent price with Skyscanner.

  1. Hi Michelle. How much aggrivation does it cause doing Ex-EU departures currently? Considering flying FRA – DOH – BKK in February and Germany entry requiremenbts seem quite relaxed currently.

    • I’m back booking them but as we saw we Omicron things can change fast. The main issue at the moment has been the constant cancellation of flights by airlines. Obviously they have to sort it out on the through ticket but on a positioning ticket it can make a trip very difficult. If you have time and money to be able to weather a lot of changes then it’s fine.

  2. As a solo traveller, always disappointing that the Lufthansa group don’t recognise our existence in their promotions.

  3. it looks availability is extremely poor and some destinations ( like Buenos Aires or Cape Town ) are not included at all

  4. Hi Michelle, trying to look at fairs but getting a “this access code is disactivated warning” on the Swiss and Lufthansa website. Any ideas? Happy new year!

  5. Hi Michele, I’m trying to book this deal but everytime I choose it just comes back choose other dates. There is no option to see calendar availability. I’ve been on hold to Lufthansa 2 x 45 mins to no avail, and no response from them on twitter. Just a tad frustrating and any suggestions? Thank you.

    • Yes I’d try on google flights. Make sure to select two people and LUfthansa as the airline. You can then click on the dates in the results and it will show a full calendar. Once you have found the flights it should allow you to book on google with Lufthansa
