I have had a couple of readers ask about how they can find availability for the deals. If you have specific dates in mind, then obviously the airline website is the best choice. If you are very flexible or can’t find anything then Google Flights is your best bet. This will show you about the next 9 months cheapest fares for a destination. If you want to find out more, have a read of this article.

London to Abu Dhabi on British Airways from £1386

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

This is not a particularly outstanding price, but it is the best I have seen since the last sale on BA from London. The cheapest we usually see it in a BA sale is around £1250. You can usually get cheaper on Swiss or Lufthansa, although there are no cheaper deals with them at the moment. To limit your exposure in cash should your flight get cancelled, I recommend considering adding a hotel for a night or more. This means you only have to pay a low deposit starting from £150 per person until 3-6 weeks beforehand. It can often work out cheaper too as well as a bonus extra 1 Avios per 1 spent on top of any flight Avios.

The rules:

  • Book by: 5 month advance purchase and by 27 May 2020
  • Travel:
    • outbound – permitted Tue/Wed/Thu. Inbound – permitted Mon/Tue/Wed.
    • permitted 06 Apr 20 through 19 Dec 20 or 04 Jan 21 through 12 Feb 21 or 22 Feb 21 through 27 Mar 21.
  • Minimum stay:  3 nights
  • Maximum stay: 12 months
  • Transfers: Unlimited
  • Stopovers: 2 free
  • Refundable: No
  • Changeable: Yes for a fee or for free with BA’s book with confidence policy

USA East Coast

New York from £1052

If you fancy spending New Year’s Eve in New York, then flights are available leaving on 30 December and returning on 3 January as well as from Autumn until April 2021 currently. The price has risen slightly since the last time I wrote about it but it is still great value.

TAP A321LR business class

TAP has become one of the best value airlines for travel to the US. Not only do they offer a free stopover in one of my favourite European cities, Lisbon, but many routes have their brand new Airbus NEOS. These have a great business class product. This particular route features their A321LR which have an alternating 1-1 and 2-2 layout and just 16 seats in business class.  The flights are available from Gatwick to JFK and route via Lisbon or Porto.

TAP is part of Star Alliance and if you want to find out more about collecting Star Alliance miles you can see our basic guide here or Paul’s plan for status next year with them.

The rules of the fare are:

  • Travel: Outbound Wednesdays from late October until March
  • Minimum stay: 6 nights or a Saturday night
  • Transfers: 6 free in Europe
  • Stopovers: One free
  • Refundable: For a fee
  • Changeable: For a fee

You can book direct with Tap Portugal here or find the cheapest online travel agent price with Skyscanner.

USA West Coast

San Francisco

San Francisco

The deals to the West Coast are only slightly cheaper than we would usually see for Skyteam, but you can, of course, get some great deals by going from other European departures points. However, given the uncertain nature of travel at the moment you may prefer to keep it simple. Skyteam are cheaper but they do involve a transfer at least one way to get the cheap price.

Hotels.com discount with free cancellation on most rooms

I wrote on Monday about the offer for a free Hotels.com Reward night after only 5 nights. If you are not likely to use them for that many stays, this may be a better offer. The discount code is offering 8% discount on hotel bookings only with Hotels.com. The discount is valid for bookings made by 31/05/2020 on the UK version of Hotels.com for a stay to be completed between 18/05/2020 and 31/10/2020.

You can’t use the coupon for:

  1. Bookings paid for at the hotel
  2. Bookings paid for in a foreign currency
  3. Bookings at non-participating hotels (list here)

You can’t collect or redeem Hotels.com™ Rewards nights when you use this coupon either so you can’t use it with the Rewards night offer.

You can find the full terms and conditions here and book here.
