UK to Sydney from £2483

With Skyteam now being of much more interest thanks to the ability to use Air France/KLM miles on Virgin Atlantic, this deal from London may be of interest. At around £2500 it is about as low as you will see from London to Syndey in business class excluding the Chinese airlines which starts at around £2200. The fare is with Vietnam Airlines who I am planning to fly long haul within a couple of months. I have flown short-haul with them many times and really like them as an airline. The staff are usually charming and helpful and they have modern aircraft.

Their long haul business class features the same seats as Cathay and Qatar Airways on their B787 in a 1-2-1 layout.

The fare routes via Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh you can add in stopovers very cheaply if you want to see more of Vietnam. You can read about my trips in this article.

The other great thing about the fare given the current situation is the refund/cancellation policy (always double check when you book on line). For €75 you can change or cancel your booking. If you change you would have to pay any fare difference but the offer of a refund hopefully means that’s not an issue.

The rules are

  • Book by: 45 days before
  • Transfers: Unlimited
  • Stopovers:
  • 6 stopovers permitted on the pricing unit –
    • 3 in each direction at GBP 10.00 each
    • 3 in Vietnam in each direction.
    • 6 stopovers permitted on the pricing unit –
    • 3 in each direction at GBP 10.00 each
    • 2 in Vietnam in each direction
    • 1 in area 2 in each direction when not via same carrier.
  • Refundable: Yes for €75
  • Changeable: Yes for €75

No change fee for new Virgin bookings made in March 2020

Like BA and American, to provide greater flexibility to customers and stimulate forward bookings, Virgin have introduced a flexible policy to waive the flight change fee for tickets issued from 04 March – 31 March 2020.

The policy applies to all routes in Virgin Atlantic’s international network, including services from London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Manchester, Glasgow and Belfast airports, and tickets booked on Virgin Atlantic codeshare flights on transatlantic routes with Delta, Air France and KLM (must have VS flight number).

Like the other offers, you will still have to pay any difference in fare. The offer is only for flights up to 30 September 2020.

Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer, Virgin Atlantic, said:

“We understand that with evolving travel advice, some of our customers may wish to build in some flexibility to upcoming travel plans.

“Putting our customers first, this new policy enables them to continue with their Virgin Atlantic booking this month, with the peace of mind that there is the option to change their flight at a later date, without incurring a fee.”

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, Virgin Atlantic has suspended London Heathrow-Shanghai operations until 19th April 2020 and is operating an amended London Heathrow-Hong Kong schedule.

You can book online at or by phone for the offer. If you have a query all customers can contact Virgin Atlantic’s customer care team via SMS +44 (0) 7481 339184. I tried it this morning and had an answer within 10 minutes. Much better than hanging on the phone!
