Upgrade from Gold to Platinum Amex with 30,000 bonus
If like me you downgraded your Platinum card to a Gold Preferred Rewards Charge card or you have a Gold charge card or green Amex card and have considered getting the Platinum, now may be the time to do it. Amex is offering 30,000 Membership Reward points for upgrading to the Platinum card. The catch is that you will need to spend £4,000 in three months. You need to apply by 28 February 2022 to get the bonus. You can also get an additional 5,000 points if you add a free Platinum supplementary card.
There’s no credit check – I just did it now and it took only a few seconds to tick a few boxes and enter your card security details. It appears that they will take the fee monthly at £48 rather than the annual £575 charge I was paying before.
As well as getting better cashback offers on the Platinum card you also get a Priority Pass lounge pass for you (and you can take a guest) which can be handy as not all airlines are providing a lounge even for business class passengers.
There’s free travel insurance including car hire excess insurance which is useful but you must read the small print about when you need to pay with your card to get the benefits. There are also perks with Harvey Nicholls, and Addison Lee although you would lose the Gold Deliveroo credit.

Up to 20% off Jumeirah hotels
Until 31 January 2022 there’s up to 20% off most Jumeirah hotels for stays between 1 January and 30 September 2022. Most of the UAE hotels are included as well as the Carlton Tower in London that I recently visited and loved plus the Jumeirah Port Soller in Majorica which is stunning and I reviewed here.
