Upgrade to British Airways First class from £199 one way

If you are tempted to book one of the good First class fares we have been talking about in the British Airways sale but found it a bit pricey, there may be an alternative. Trailfinders are offering upgrades to First class on flights to the US from £199 one way. Personally, I think this is the way to do First class efficiently. It means that you could enjoy the First experience outbound from Heathrow with the Concorde Room and enjoy all that First has to offer onboard with a daytime flight. Then with the return, where many airports don’t have the same level of luxury as the Concorde Room, you can fly back in Club World and sleep on the short flight.

If you want to find out what you get with BA’s new First class service you can find several reviews here.

The upgrades are available for flights to the USA between 18 December 2019 and 31 May 2020. You need to fly outbound on Tues/Wed/Thurs and return Mon/Tues/Wed. You must also stay a Saturday night.

You can find out destinations and how to contact Trailfinders here.

United Kingdom to Dominican Republic (Punta Cana)

Yesterday we featured an offer with Star Alliance to Tokyo and Seoul from the UK. The same offer also includes the beach destination of Punta Cana with return flights in business class from £1312. The flights are from London and start from £1321. You can fly from either Heathrow or London City to connect in Zurich onto Edelweiss.  Edelweiss are a Swiss leisure airline wholly owned by Swiss International Air Lines. The onboard seats are pretty much the same as Swiss apart from some aircraft with rather lurid blue colour seats! You can also fly with United Airlines via New York (could be a nice stopover).

The rules are:

  • Minimum stay: 6 nights or a Saturday night
  • Maximum stay: 12 months
  • Transfers: unlimited
  • Stopovers: 1 in each direction at £75 each
  • Refundable: No
  • Changeable: For a fee

The seats do not appear to be bookable with Swiss directly but is available through travel agents such as Expedia. You can find the cheapest online travel agent price with Skyscanner.

Luxury 5 night Langkawi stay from £651 for 5 nights!

If you have used Secret Escapes or Voyage Prive, there is now another similar company around called Luxury Escapes. It works on the same principle as the others, where you have to sign up (for free) to receive access to their special sales.

Their latest offer is for Langkawi, one of mine and Roving Reporter’s favourite places to visit for a relaxing beach break with some stunning scenery and wildlife too. Qatar will now fly to Langkawi from the UK via Doha from this September. You can find the Qatar schedule and prices here.

The hotel on offer is The Westin Langkawi, part of Starwood. The price includes options from the Superior room starting from £651 for 6 nights per room to the lavish one-bedroom pool suite for £1643 for 5 nights. The cheapest prices are available from September 2019 onwards. I last visited in November, and although we had some rain it generally wasn’t for long.

The offer includes for 2 people:

  • Daily buffet breakfast at Seasonal Tastes restaurant, featuring a pancake and waffle station, cooked-to-order eggs and more breakfast staples
  • One themed buffet dinner at Seasonal Tastes restaurant showcasing an antipasti station, mezze selection and live cooking stations
  • Nightly cocktail each at the open-air Breeze Lounge
  • One 60-minute spa treatment each at the Westin Heavenly Spa – with a choice of an Aspire Massage or Malaysian Traditional Massage
  • Private VIP return airport transfers from Langkawi International Airport
  • Welcome in-room fruit basket on arrival

You can sign up for Luxury Escapes using this link and get £25 off your first purchase.

  1. As good as the Datai Beach Villas….??

  2. Is there a an email for trail finder or is only by phone ?

  3. The Westin is a bit grim -stay at the St Regis next door !

  4. Or the Ritz Carlton!

  5. Does the Luxury Escape same principle as others(Amex FHR,Virtuoso etc.) means that Bonvoy and HHonors members would get the night and points credit to their account?

Have your say
