American Express Expands Dining and Shopping Benefits for Platinum Cardholders

American Express

From January 2025, American Express Platinum Cardmembers can enjoy up to £400 in annual cashback when dining at a selection of renowned UK and international restaurants. This enhancement gives members more value as it replaces the current offer, which expires at the end of 2024, adding an additional £100 in dining credits.

Upgraded Dining Credit for 2025

The new dining benefit, available to enrolled members through Amex Offers, will award £100 cashback twice a year for UK dining – £100 between January and June, and another £100 between July and December. This same benefit applies to dining abroad, effectively allowing Cardmembers to enjoy £400 in combined cashback annually on dining alone. American Express’s hand-picked selection of over 2,000 dining establishments includes top-tier restaurants like Berenjak Soho, Tattu Manchester, and Bread Street Kitchen Edinburgh.

A full list of participating restaurants can be found here.

This is a good offer, but only if you live in London and Manchester. There don’t appear to be many restaurants outside of those two cities. They have also removed many international options. For example, only one restaurant is listed in Las Vegas and only four in Los Angeles.

It’s a nice benefit to have but I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to get the card just for this.

Extended Harvey Nichols Benefit

Adding to the 2025 enhancements, the Harvey Nichols shopping credit has also been extended until 30 June 2025. This benefit allows enrolled Platinum Cardmembers to receive £50 back every six months when shopping either online or in-store at Harvey Nichols. Importantly, for Cardmembers who have already enrolled in this offer, there’s no need to re-enrol – the extension will apply automatically.

Lifestyle and Travel Benefits Beyond Dining and Shopping

The American Express Platinum Card goes beyond cashback offers, providing members with a broad range of exclusive perks tailored to their high-end lifestyle. Key benefits include:

  • Hotel Upgrades and Late Check-Outs: Members enjoy elevated experiences at luxury hotels worldwide, with upgrades and late check-outs often included.
  • Global Lounge Access: Cardholders gain access to over 1,400 airport lounges in 140 countries, including American Express’s signature Centurion Lounges.
  • Comprehensive Travel Insurance: Coverage for both Cardmembers and their families for peace of mind during travels.
  • International Airline Program Discounts: Exclusive savings on First, Business, and Premium Economy fares with select airlines.
  • Reward Points and Referral Bonuses: Cardholders earn Membership Rewards points with each purchase and can accumulate up to 90,000 points annually through referrals.
  • Premium Event Access: Early access to sought-after events, from Wimbledon to concerts and theatre.

New Cardmembers can also earn up to 50,000 Membership Rewards points (worth approximately £250) when they spend £6,000 in the first three months of membership, making now a particularly rewarding time to join.

If you scroll down the list of UK Restaurants – you’ll see the Ivy Group is listed in one block, but with 36 locations across the country!

I did spot that too! At least it gives an option in a few more cities.
