British Airways Suspends London Flights to Dubai and Doha Amid Escalation in Iran
British Airways has suspended flights from London Heathrow to Dubai and Doha, following an escalation in the Middle East after the US launched airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites.
All flights scheduled to depart Heathrow for Dubai or Doha (including return flights) have been cancelled until at least the end of tomorrow.
British Airways has commented:
“As a result of recent events, we have adjusted our flight schedule to ensure the safety of our customers and crew, which is always our top priority.”
“We are contacting our customers to advise them of their options while we work through this developing situation.”
On Saturday night, flight BA109 from Heathrow to Dubai was diverted to Zurich after changing course in Saudi Arabia. The flight landed 9 hours after takeoff.
Flight Booked?
If you’re due to fly this month, keep an eye on updates! BA normally operates two daily services to Doha and three to Dubai, so this will have a huge impact. There are currently 1,000 BA passengers waiting to be flown back from Dubai.
BA has introduced a flexible booking policy that allows you to change your travel dates. At the moment, this is available for flights up until and including 6th July 2025.
Affected travellers have reported being rebooked onto Qatar Airways without issue, and sometimes Etihad if it’s a same-day cancellation. As you can imagine, BA’s phone lines are very busy at the moment.
Refunds are only given if BA cancels the flight outright, even if you choose to cancel due to the geopolitical situation. If you accept a refund, you will no longer be eligible for EC261 compensation.
What are Other Airlines Doing?
Emirates continues to operate services as normal, although it has temporarily suspended all flights to Iran and Iraq until 30th June due to the situation.
The strikes have triggered widespread disruption, with aircraft avoiding conflict zones across the Middle East. More than 150 carriers have diverted or suspended flights that would normally cross affected airspace. With many airlines avoiding Russian airspace, this adds further complications.
FlightRadar24 shows an eerily empty airspace over the affected areas:
Singapore Airlines has also suspended flights to Dubai until at least Wednesday, joining American Airlines, United, KLM, and Finnair, all of which have currently halted services to either Doha or Dubai.
The Outlook
The UK Foreign Office has issued warnings about potential short-notice airspace closures. It’s worth checking the small print of your travel insurance policy to see what’s covered.
While airspace over the region has now reopened, flights continue to divert. Routes are currently being adjusted via Egypt, the Caspian Sea, and Saudi Arabia, depending on the destination.
Dublin Airport Expands Platinum VIP Terminal
Dublin Airport’s VIP terminal has just been upgraded to meet increasing demand from both business and leisure travellers. The expansion means the terminal can host an extra 26,000 passengers per year (66,000 up from 40,000)
It’s long been popular with luxury-seeking travellers, CEOs, and government officials, but there’s now increasing demand for honeymooners, wedding parties, and people celebrating special occasions.
General Manager Ronan O’Donoghue says,
“We’ve had to turn people away in the past due to high demand—this expansion finally gives us breathing room.”
Located next to Terminal 1, Platinum VIP is open 24/7, 364 days per year. You can enjoy private parking, a much quieter security screening process, luxury lounges, and chauffeured airside transfers.

A standout feature of the upgrade is the Sean Lemass Room – a purpose-built boardroom with full video conferencing facilities.
The newly added suites are furnished with bespoke pieces by Irish designer Tom Delaney and feature artwork from Gormley’s. You’ll also find 25 archival images of Dublin Airport’s history, including famous visitors such as Muhammad Ali, JFK, and Grace Kelly. Even the fixtures include restored 1960s elements!
Four new chefs have joined the in-house culinary team to improve the gourmet menu.
Platinum VIP can be booked regardless of your airline or cabin class. Prices are at the premium end, but if privacy, speed and a calm experience are important to you, it’s worth giving it a try!
Make sure you enquire well in advance if you can.
