BA UK-US CW fares from £1342
If you were interested in the Virgin Atlantic 6 month advance purchase fares but would rather fly Oneworld, BA still have some good deals on fares to the US for next year. Most allow you to fly on BA, AA Iberia or Finnair and could be made into a tier point run if you wanted. The prices are probably not cheap enough to warrant a stand-alone TP run but if you fancy going to the destination you can easily add in some extra legs to rack up the TPs. There are cheaper fares from Inverness and Jersey for some of the routes due to the lack of APD tax. Jersey is a rather inconvenient one though as you would need to get from Gatwick to Heathrow. This would probably be a good opportunity to build in an overnight stop providing it is less than 24 hours so you are not at the mercy of the M25 when you are against the clock for a flight.
The rules of the fares vary but are generally 50 days to 6 months advance purchase and available from next May onwards. Tuesday and Wednesday departures for most flights too. Make sure you check the individual flights T&Cs as they can vary (best way to do this is using ITA matrix)
Here is a selection of the best with some TP run suggestions:
- Jersey – Orlando £1381
- Jersey – Charleston £1471
- Inverness – Chicago £1342
- Inverness – Chicago FIRST £2298
- Inverness – Miami £1562
- Inverness – New Orleans £1386
- Inverness – Phoenix
- London – Orlando £1524
- London – New York £1454
- London – Boston £1456
- London – Portland £1535 or try a Tier point run for 800 TP – LHR-CDG-MAD-JFK-LAX-PDX or a less comprehensive one LHR-MAD-JFK-LAX-PDX for £1552 and 720 TPs
- London – San Francisco £1635
- London – Vancouver £1635
- London – Nashville £1650
You need to book on British Airways tickets to get these prices rather than the other Oneworld airlines. You can book and search for prices here.
Sir Richard Branson has been talking to the media about Virgin Atlantic launching a non-stop route between London and Australia “as soon as possible”. Qantas started the world’s third longest flight from London to Perth earlier this year and it has proved an even bigger success than they expected with 92% load factors. However, Richard no longer is on the executive team and only has a 20% share in the airline which is not a controlling stake. His remarks seem to have come to a surprise to the rest of Virgin Atlantic who denied they had any firm plans to start the route but did not rule it out. With Virgin Australia potentially providing a good route network to link up with and the current load factors on the London Perth route, it does not seem like it is outside the realm of possibility though.
