Iberia Has Added Avios Pooling Via Family Accounts
Iberia has just launched family accounts for members of the Club Iberia loyalty programme. You can now pool Avios with 2-7 others and redeem for anyone, not just those named in the account. There’s also no requirement to be related.
The account creator becomes the Family Account manager. Each member keeps their own Iberia Club account and individual Avios balance; there’s no merging of accounts and no manual transfers of Avios between members.
Instead, everyone has access to a shared Avios balance. When anyone in the Family Account redeems, the cost is automatically split across all members in proportion to their balances.
Avios expiry is indirectly improved. If at least one member holds Iberia Club Plata status or above and has earned or redeemed Avios in the last 36 months, Avios are effectively protected across the Family Account as long as that remains the case. Even without status, Family Account redemptions are deducted pro rata across all members, so you will typically see activity recorded for everyone, which may help Iberia’s usual three-year expiry rules.
If you’re a British Airways Club member, you’ll already be familiar with Household Accounts, but until now, it’s taken Iberia an oddly long time to catch up, even though both airlines are part of the IAG Group.
This change will make it easier if you primarily earn and redeem with Iberia and eliminate the need to transfer Avios to BA. It’s also much more flexible than BA’s household accounts.
To create a Family Account, go to the member area and invite people using their Iberia Club number. Invitations are valid for 7 days, and once at least one person accepts, the Family Account is created. There’s a 12-month minimum commitment (not something to be taken lightly); you can belong to only one Family Account at a time, and only the manager can add or remove members or close the account.
If you regularly redeem Iberia Avios and want simpler Avios pooling without BA workarounds, this is ideal.

AMEX Offers: Up to £200 Cashback on Virgin Atlantic Flights

If you’re likely to spend with Virgin Atlantic soon, make sure you check the ‘offers’ section of your AMEX app, as some big savings may be available to you. If targeted, the discount depends on your spend:
- £1,500 spend – £150 cashback
- £1,750 spend – £175 cashback
- £2,000 spend – £200 cashback
As always, you’ll need to save the offer to your card before booking your flight. Flights are eligible only if they depart from a UK airport and are booked before 31st March 2026.
A range of cards are being targeted for this, with many spotting it on the AMEX Platinum. Historically, Virgin offers have also shown on cards such as Preferred Rewards Gold, but not branded cards.
That’s effectively 10% cashback. With a Premium seat easily costing £2,000+, this offer isn’t hard to meet the criteria, though Virgin Holidays bookings and upgrades are excluded.
For example, on a one-way Premium flight to Miami with £2,700 in eligible spend, you would receive £200 cashback, bringing the price of your flight down to £2,500.
If you’re travelling with someone who also has the offer, book your flights separately so you can both take advantage of it. Phone bookings also don’t count, so you won’t be able to use your Virgin Atlantic credit card voucher alongside the discount.
If you’re planning to book a Virgin flight, make sure you check your AMEX offers. Best case, you’ve just knocked £150-£200 off a flight you were about to buy anyway!
