New generous £400 off travel with American Express Platinum
For a limited time, eligible Platinum Cardmembers can earn a £400 Travel Credit when you spend £15,000 between and including 1 October 2025 and 31 December 2025. You can also combine your already earned Membership Rewards® points with your Travel Credit to pay for your next trip, but generally this is not a good value use of points.
It’s a lot of money to spend in just 3 months but if you have a partner card as well this could help hit the spend. The Travel Credit is applied to the primary Account and can only be redeemed by the primary Cardmember.
The other downside of the offer is that you have to spend at least £400 to redeem the credit and it has to be something pre-paid. Some Fine Hotels and The Hotel Collection do offer a pre-paid rate. The Travel Credit is applied to the primary Account upon qualification and can only be redeemed by the primary Cardmember.
Once you have spent £15,000 between and including 1 October – 31 December 2025 you will see your Travel Credit as a payment option at check out, when you book online through American Express Travel.
Your Travel Credit can be used towards one single prepaid transaction of a minimum value of £400. Remember to book and redeem your Travel Credit by 30 June 2026 and then your travel dates can be later. This does give a long window to use the credit which may sway you more towards trying to make the spend requirement.
The Travel Credit can only be redeemed on prepaid flights, hotels and car rental booked online through American Express Travel.
How to use your American Express Travel Credit
- Step 1: Log in & Search Log in to your Account and begin your travel search online through American Express Travel. Your available payment options will be displayed once you proceed to the check out page.
- Step 2: Select Travel Credit Make a booking to the full value of your Travel Credit or more and select the Travel Credit at check out. Be sure to use your Travel Credit before it expires on 30 June 2026 in one single prepaid transaction of £400 or more.
- Step 3: Pay for your Trip Pay for your booking using your American Express® Platinum Card and they will credit the amount to your Account within 30 business days.
Lufthansa is Turning 100—And Giving Its Long-Haul Flights a Major Makeover
Lufthansa is gearing up for the 100th anniversary of the airline’s founding. As part of the celebrations they’re using the milestone to completely revamp their long-haul flights with a new concept called FOX, or Future Onboard eXperience. In my opinion this has been needed for a while as the airline had fallen behind the curve on a number of factors such as its business class seats. With new seats also being rolled out, Lufthansa will soon be a serious player in the business class market again.
The goal of the program is to reaffirm the German carrier’s reputation as a premium airline by giving passengers a more personal, comfortable, and memorable journey, no matter which class they’re flying.
Lufthansa isn’t skimping on the details. Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines, said the company is “investing over €70 million in our new Future Onboard Experience in the next twelve months alone.”
He added that this isn’t just about new cushions; it’s an investment in “a top premium product, in the satisfaction of our guests, and in the future of our airline.” Ritter emphasized that the new experience is about building on Lufthansa’s century-long reputation for being an “attentive and unique host above the clouds.”
The FOX initiative comes as the airline continues to modernize its fleet with new aircraft like the Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A350-900, and rolls out its new Allegris seating product. FOX will now take things a step further by updating every service element and process on long-haul flights across all four cabins: Economy, Premium Economy, Business, and First Class.
What Does FOX Actually Mean for Passengers?
The entire program is built around three core pillars: Individuality, Comfort, and Lufthansa Signature Moments.
1. Individuality (Eat When You Want)
Passengers will get more control over their flight experience, especially when it comes to dining.
- Business Class travelers will soon be able to choose when they eat their second meal, selecting from a varied menu of savory dishes, sweets, snacks, and hot meals whenever they like. I have not seen the second meal offered as a dine whenever option on other airlines, usually it is the first meal service on Qatar which allows you to dine whenever you like.
- Even in Economy and Premium Economy, guests will get more choice, with the number of available hot meal options increasing from two to three.
2. Comfort (High-End Everything)
The airline is serious about boosting its premium feel. This includes:
- Higher quality amenities and textiles.
- All-new, timeless tableware across every class. Lufthansa says the new plates and glasses aren’t just functional; they’re designed to feel good in your hand and reinforce the high-quality experience.
3. Lufthansa Signature Moments (The Little Luxuries)
FOX will amplify the special touches that only Lufthansa offers. Think of things like the iconic rose and caviar service in First Class or the specialty “Avionic” signature drink.
The new concept promises to make the cuisine a blend of “home, variety, and Lufthansa signature dishes,” allowing passengers to “immerse themselves in different worlds of pleasure created by top chefs.” The menus will sometimes focus on the destination, other times on the place of departure, but always designed to build your anticipation for the trip.
The FOX experience is scheduled to roll out in spring 2026, just in time to kick off the airline’s centennial celebrations.
