Caribbean Virgin Atlantic Upper Class from £949

Virgin has a sale currently on until 21 September and has now lowered their prices even further on some routes. Manchester to Jamaica is the standout price at £949, although of course, you wouldn’t get the same lounge experience as travelling from London with the Clubhouse.

Here are the prices:

Finnair UK business class long haul from £1232

Finnair A350 XWB Business Class Cabin 01 cruise

Finnair A350 XWB Business Class Cabin

Finnair are part of oneworld and always used to be a good source of cheap long-haul fares to Asia. Although the product is not as good as Qatar long haul, it does have decent seats in a 1-2-1 layout and I really love the little individual touches like the beautiful glasswear.

Passengers are allowed to transit through Helsinki Airport as long as they can verify acceptance at their final destination. You can also Finland if fully vaccinated at least 14 days prior to arrival with the NHS app accepted as proof.

The latest prices from London via Helsinki (which has some fantastic lounges) are:

  • Phuket £1480
  • Hong Kong £1232
  • Bangkok £1240
  • Osaka £1742
  • Seoul £1240
  • Tokyo £1906

Obviously, Phuket is the only place you can easily visit at the moment. But some of the fares are available into spring/summer 2022. Bangkok for example is available until December 21 and then again in May and June. Each route has slightly different rules and travel periods. The best way to find the dates is using Google flights and then clicking on the calendar and scrolling through. Most are only available mid week and require booking 60 days in advance.

I have had flights to Hong Kong booked with Finnair since the pandemic and so far they have been great at allowing me to push them into the future every time there’s a cancellation or big time change. I use the chat function which seems to work well. The book with confidence policy is in place for bookings made until 31 December 2021. You can find the official policy here.

You can find the Finnair offers page here.

  1. Just a note of caution, none of the extra-Schengen Finnair lounges are currently open and the catering service even in business class is no choice vegetarian. The removal of food choices is apparently to make the airline more sustainable which is what their passengers are supposed to have told them they want. You can imagine the questions.

They used to be good, let’s hope for better days in the future.

  2. “Obviously, Phuket is the only place you can easily visit at the moment.”

Looking at the traffic light system, Thailand is on red. Is there an exception here?

  3. Ahgot it, thanks Michele!
