Virgin Atlantic Upper Class from £1179 to Asia
As well as the fantastic deal from Madrid and Barcelona for around £1090, there is also a similar business class deal from Lisbon to Shanghai. You fly from Lisbon with British Airways or Tap to Heathrow and then transfer on to Virgin. There is a very handover stopover allowed though which makes this itinerary so much easier. You book your outbound positioning flight to Lisbon, have a lovely mini-break there and then fly back to Heathrow on the start of the Virgin ticket. You can then break your journey and fly to Shanghai on a separate trip. Or you could do it on the return instead. Remember you can also break your journey for up to 24 hours at no cost.
If you have not flown Virgin Upper Class before you can read reviews of all the aircraft types business class here.

Boutique hotel in New York
One of my favourite non-chain hotels in New York is the Westhouse, near Central Park. It has a great location and a free lounge with complimentary breakfast plus evening cocktails and food. You can read my review here.
Voyage Prive is a members-only website with hand-picked hotels, holidays and exclusive offers. It is free to join here. They currently have the Westhouse from £146 per room per night based on two sharing for a minimum of three nights in a King Room. They also have Two Queen Room or One Bedroom Suites as well for different prices. There is also a £15 booking fee but given that taxes and breakfast are included, it is still a good deal.

Amex Travel Offer
A few people have been reporting that there is a new American Express Travel offer appearing on their Gold cards. It is not nearly as good as the previous offer as this is £50 off when you spend £200 with Amex Travel before 28 February. So far there is no sign of it on my Platinum card. If it doesn’t appear in a few days you can always ask if Amex can add it as occasionally they will do it.
There are a few other offers of interest:
- £150 off rooms only at Claridges, The Connaught and The Berkeley when you spend £300 by 31.3.20
- Firmdale hotels which includes Ham Yard Hotel London, one of my favourite bars – spend £75 get £25 on dining
- £100 off when you spend £1000 with Kuoni
