British Airways short haul sale
If you fancy a cheap break somewhere in Europe, British Airways is offering 50,000 short-haul seats at £50 each-way during the last days of August and during September and October. If you only need a very small amount of tier points this could be a cheaper way to do it.
Andrew Brem, British Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer, said: “As the evenings begin to draw in here, why not prolong your summer with a European escapade? It’s the perfect time to travel with kinder temperatures, ripening fruit, fewer people and long golden days.”

Australia and New Zealand from under £2000
Singapore Airlines have consistently offered some great prices to New Zealand and Australia from Stockholm. Although I have written about them before, since the prices have now even dipped below £2000 (it’s normally around £2100) I thought it was worth another look.

The rules:
- Book by: 8 September 2019
- Travel: Valid for travel commencing on/after 1 Oct 19 and on/before 10 Jun 20. Travel is not permitted 17 Dec 19 through 23 Dec 19 or 27 Mar 20 through 7 Apr 20.
- Minimum stay: 7 nights
- Maximum stay: 1 month
- Transfers: Unlimited
- Stopovers: Free in Singapore
- Refundable: No
- Changeable: For a fee
The experience:
Roving Reporter and I did this when we visited New Zealand last year. The flight does route via Moscow for a brief stop on the way to Singapore. This didn’t really bother us since in business class you are off first and through immigration pretty quickly. Twenty minutes or so in the lounge and you get back on again. Singapore fly their A350 on this route that has one of the biggest business-class beds I have seen. You can read my review here.
There is a good choice of options for crediting miles to either any Star Alliance airline or as I did, Virgin Atlantic.

I am unable find London/Sydney on Singapore for less than £4000 – and that’s flying midweek!

What dates were you able to find for Malta at that price please. I’ve had a look with no luck.

You mention the SQ flights from ARN route via Moscow and you go through immigration. Does this mean you need a Russian visa to travel the route to Singapore?
No, you don’t need to do anything as you remain in transit. They have a special transit area of immigration for the flight. It is very well organised. I definitely would not be recommending it if you had to go through the hassle of a visa. I can only comment on UK passports.
