The good news keeps rolling in for British Airways today. If you missed it before, BA has also announced today that they will be extending status by 12 months.
Like all airlines, BA had to make temporary adjustments to their onboard catering while they worked on a new solution with their catering suppliers that follows guidance from regulators, minimising interactions between customers and crew. As I have reported, currently there is no alcohol served onboard and all classes get a very basic sandwich meal and soft drinks. Longer flights get a pizza slice too.
That is all due to change from 16 June. Although I would like to see British Airways go a little further than this next announcement, I would expect since most of us are not allowed to travel currently due to the FCO warning, that this may be improved again before most of us get to travel.
However, these look far, far better than what was being offered before and I thought the presentation looks smart.

The booze is back
Most importantly alcohol is back. It is not quite the same as usual on long haul since they will be serving the quarter bottles you would normally get in Club Europe which includes champagne. Spirits will also be available. This includes Club Europe but not Euro Traveller on short haul.
Long haul from 16 June
From June 16, BA will be introducing a better version of their temporary catering. Customers travelling to a long haul destination will be offered pre-prepared meal boxes including dishes such as a salad, hot entrée or sandwich, served with a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Better meals are now being served in premium cabins. Snacks will also be available between meals. On longer flights, a second meal will be served.
We don’t know if special meals can be pre-ordered but there should be a choice of vegetarian or non vegetarian onboard.
Here are examples of what you will get in each cabin:
Short haul flights from 16 June
Customers travelling to a short haul destination in the business class cabin, Club Europe, will also be offered a pre-prepared meal, such as salad or sandwich with a selection of beverages. Those customers travelling in the economy cabin, Euro Traveller, will be offered a complimentary snack (crisps, pretzels etc) and a bottle of water.
BA will continue to take advice from relevant authorities and incorporate this into the development of their onboard experience. As I have said before, I am currently predicting that the FCO advice will be changed to country-specific by August. At this point, I would predict BA will start looking at a return to more normal service in business and first on long haul, but most likely a one tray approach like other airlines for safety reasons.

The info I have says beverages in CE. On long haul it specifies alcohol. I am now double checking!

Premium economy though is the same as economy. Booked to Argentina in November so hope it goes back to normal before then or will have paid extra for a slight larger seat and that’s all!

Without a doubt the worst airline in Europe. Despite of being Gold for years I decided to stop flying with them for good.
