Despite the new British Airways Club launching on 1 April this year and previously promising that you could earn up to 2,500 Tier points a year with the British Airways Premium Plus card, no details have been announced until today. Given that we are already over two and a half months into everyone’s collection year, this is poor form from BA. The good news is that they have finally announced the full details today, and there is still a reasonable amount of time to earn the tier points.

How do I earn the tier points?
Tier points are based on three levels of spend.
- 750 tier points will be awarded when a Cardmember spends £15,000 after their enrolment into the tier points offer. Resulting in a total of 750 tier points.
- 750 additional tier points will be awarded when a Cardmember spends a further £5,000 after their enrolment into the tier points offer, totalling £20,000 spend. Resulting in a total of 1,500 tier points.
- A final 1,000 additional tier points will be awarded when a Cardmember spends a further £5,000 after enrolment into the tier points offer, totalling £25,000 spend. Resulting in a total of 2,500 tier points.
I think it is a shame they could not just offer 1 tier point per £1000 spent from £15,000 to £25,000 which would have made it easier and less complicated to keep track of.
Here is a reminder of what you need for each Club tier. This is based on net spend, which excludes any taxes and does not include Avios flights (except for part-pay flights with Avios).
- Bronze – 3500 Tier Points
- Silver – 7500 Tier Points
- Gold – 20,000 Tier Points
Will my spend from 1 April 2025 at the start of my BA Club tier point year count?
No only spend from when you register.
How does this work with my companion voucher? Do I need to spend more money on top of the £15,000 spend required for the voucher?
No, the two offers are completely separate. You still earn their Companion Voucher when they spend £15,000 within their Amex membership year. The Premium Plus Companion Voucher is valid for 24 months and can be redeemed in any cabin class, including First Class.
How long do I have to earn the tier points?
Unlike the previous offer, there is at least a reasonable amount of time to earn the tier points. You have until 1 February 2026 to earn the points. I think it is fair enough to have a cut-off before the end of everyone’s tier point year, as they will need to be transferred in time for the next year’s status to be calculated. However, given that they started this offer so late, I think they could have given some sort of concession for this year. It has been reported by Head for Points that BA may offer 500 tier points to everyone as compensation, but no official announcement has been made yet.
EDIT: Since we posted the article, a few of us have received an email from British Airways Club awarding us 500 tier points “for continued loyalty”, which must be the above mentioned compensation.
Do I need to register to earn the tier points?
Yes. Cardmembers will only be eligible for the limited-time offer if they enrol within the offer period. Provided you have opted in to receive marketing communications, you will receive an email on 18 June 2025 giving you the option to enrol in the offer. I have received mine already. All British Airways American Express® Premium Plus Cardmembers will also be able to enrol via their American Express online account or via the American Express® App from 18 June 2025. The enrolment window will run from 18 June 2025, and Cardmembers must enrol by 25 January 2026.
Is it worth upgrading my BA free Amex for the offer?
If you think you can hit the spend requirements without any effort and would make the additional spending requirements to get your required level of status, it could well be worth it. For me, the main saving comes with seat fees which can be £100+ pp on long haul. Even with Bronze, you get seat selection 7 days before, which should give some decent seat choices. Silver and Gold can select seats from the time of booking. With a fee of £300, it would be easy to recoup that amount in one trip, considering the saved seat fees, the value of the companion voucher, and the Avios earning of 1.5 Avios per £ or 3 Avios per £1 on ba.com purchases.
Will this be available next year?
This has not been confirmed, but it is expected to be an ongoing offer.

Hi, the Amex site only seems to enrol the account holders card, not any additional card holders who have their own BA status?
We haven’t seen any information on additional card holders, we will try to find out.
You can only earn the tier points if you are the main cardholder as it is one account with 2 cards.
No, this doesn’t make a blind bit of difference to me with the BA changes. What we have done now is open a Qatar Airways account for my wife and I, linking to BA for Avios transfers (and now booking Qatar flights- far more choice than BA and cheaper) and as Diamond members with Accor (and have linked that account) shall use the Qatar/Accor status match offer to get OneWorld Emerald under our Qatar accounts and let our current Gold (Emerald) status with BA lapse when it expires next year. FYI the Qatar/Accor status swap/match is for all levels and well worth considering.
Not a blind bit of difference. I was so loyal to BA. I was doing at least five domestic and European flights a month in club and eight or nine long haul trips in club or first every year. While already have GFL I was also maintaining GGL as well. This supposed Amex offer is pretty poor considering what other airline/credit card alliances offer. As for me the changes to the executive club has actually been quite liberating. On domestic flights, I have flipped to Easyjet (discounted business card), I have speedy boarding which is much more efficient that BA and none of the “bag pirates” jumping the queue, I have Amex platinum so can use what are often more superior lounges and because of strict baggage rules I am not fighting for overhead space. As for long haul. I have upcoming trips with KLM, Virgin, Delta and others….I’m done with loyalty programmes, they only seem to work one way.

As Michele says this is poor form in the extreme, particularly given that the main cardholder only gets the tier points and this is only announced now. I suppose the answer is for wife to cancel her card and reapply for a separate main account. Surely this isn’t what Amex and BA want?
