EasyJet launch the Luxury Collection holidays
I recently wrote about my experience with EasyJet, and Iโll be honest and say, despite being a flight snob, Iโve been pretty impressed with EasyJet using their EasyJet Plus membership, which gives lots of perks for a paid yearly membership.
If you normally book BA for your luxury holidays but are thinking of branching out, EasyJet have launched a direct challenge with their new luxury holidays. These include top luxury hotels such as Four Seasons and Fairmont, combined with added extras such as premium transfers.
More than 70 properties in Europe and North Africa are featured in the programme, all with a minimum 4.5 rating on Google and TripAdvisor.
Guests also get a 26kg luggage allowance and dedicated bag drop, fast-track security, speedy boarding, and pre-selected seating, premium private transfers, dedicated staff, and access to โelevatedโ extras, such as Michelin-star dining. In my experience, travelling through Gatwick is as good as travelling BA with Gold status, apart from the lack of a lounge. The check-in has zero queue for Speedy Boarding and staff are instantly on hand to help. If you have Priority Pass, you can simply book a lounge, as there are plenty of options at Gatwick.

French ATC strike next week to affect European flights
The main French air traffic control union, the SNCTA, is planning to strike โfrom the start of duty on the morning of 7 October until the end of night duty on the morning of 10 October.โ This is the strike that was delayed from last week.
It is thought highly unlikely the strike will be called off as the controllers have a long list of “grievances”. Ryanair are warning that there could be up to 700 flights cancelled just for their own airline. Flights overflying any of the French airspace are also affected, as it is not just the airport controllers that will be striking, so if you are heading anywhere other than Northern Europe, you could well be affected, as other routes across Europe are likely to face delays with diverted aircraft. I was a victim of the last strike when my flight back from Spain was canceled at the last minute.
You are unlikely to see cancellations in advance because two days before the strike starts, on 5 October, controllers will declare whether or not they will be available to work on the first day of the strike, and then this will repeat on 6 and 7 October for the other two days. Then, the French civil aviation authority will declare the level of service that can be provided and the proportion of flights each airline must cancel. This is done the afternoon before the strike day. However, my flight was cancelled at the very last minute, which I suspect was due to rolling delays and crew going out of hours/airport opening hours. So, it’s definitely worth monitoring your flights. I use the paid Flighty app, which will most likely notify you before the airline does, allowing you to rebook before others get notified.
