NEWS & OFFERS: BA cuts Middle East routes but adds to others, 100% Hilton buy bonus and Eurostar sale from £35

  • 10/04/2026
  • Michele

Up to 100% Hilton buy bonus

The latest Hilton points bonus is available for buying points with up to a 100% bonus. I only got offered 80%, but that may be because I have bought a lot of points recently. I saved around £10,000 on a 5-night stay at a very expensive Caribbean hotel by buying nearly all the points and then using the buy 4 nights, get 1 free offer, which is available to Hilton status holders when redeeming points. The bonus is available when you buy 3000 – 5000 points or more by 29 May. This also seems to be tailored as most people have 5000 points whereas I have 3000 as the minimum. I also have a limit of 240,000 purchased points per year whereas the general limit is 160,000. So it is worth double-checkingall the details before you purchase.

I’d never suggest buying on speculation, but it is always worth looking at any hotel stays you may have planned to see if there is a saving. The other example, besides a high-end hotel, is hotels near an event that often hike prices even before many rooms have sold. This can mean there are still relatively cheap points rooms available, which work out much more reasonable when buying points than paying cash. Hilton Wembley is a good example of this, where I recently saved hundreds of pounds by buying points.

You can’t buy points immediately when you open an account, so even if your partner or spouse doesn’t have an account, it could be worth opening one as a future-proof strategy in case you ever need to buy more than the maximum amount allowed. Pooling and transferring points is free with Hilton. You have to wait 90 days after opening an account to buy points until you earn some points when it becomes 30 days after opening.

You can find the buy points page here.

Eurostar sale

In the latest sale, you can get Eurostar Standard Class tickets from £35 one way to Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam direct, Rotterdam direct or Lille until 13 April. The prices are available for travel from London between 22 April and 8 July 2026.

If you want to maximise the savings, you can also buy through your Uber app, where you will get 10% back in Uber Credits if you have an Uber One membership. You can also earn Avios on Uber by linking your accounts.

You can find the main Eurostar page here.

British Airways cuts Middle East routes

British Airways significantly scaled back its Middle East operations this week and permanently axed its Heathrow-to-Jeddah route from 24 April 2026, less than 18 months after it started. Virgin Atlantic also decided to close its Riyadh route.

The airline also announced drastic frequency reductions for when it resumes other services later this summer: flights to Dubai will be slashed from three daily to just one from 1 July, while routes to Doha, Tel Aviv, and Riyadh will all be halved to single daily services. Services to Amman and Bahrain have been suspended until the end of the summer season on 25 October, and Abu Dhabi flights are delayed until winter.

These schedule changes are obviously a response to lower demand caused by the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict. BA has decided to prioritise other routes away from the Gulf and is redeploying its long-haul fleet toward more stable options in India and Africa. Starting in June, the carrier will double its frequency to Nairobi and Bengaluru, while adding significant capacity to New Delhi and Mumbai. Obviously, this means extra Avios availability on these new flights, with Nairobi being perfect if you fancy a safari.

A spokesperson for BA said that these adjustments aim to provide “greater clarity” for customers amid the prolonged disruption, which has resulted in the cancellation of over 21,000 long-haul flights across airlines.

BA has a decent policy for people who need to fly on Middle East routes, offering refunds and changes for free.

You can find more information about refunds and changes for Middle East flights with BA on this special page.
