Discounts on Qatar Avios flights

Qatar has just introduced a new “Redemption Discount” offer that reduces the number of Avios required for certain flights. This offer will be run on a monthly basis for fairly last-minute flights to a small number of destinations. While this is good news, most people will now struggle to use Qatar to buy Avios flights for anyone other than themselves unless they jump through at least two hoops. We described what is needed in detail in this article; in effect, anyone you book for must be added to one of two lists on your Qatar account before booking, and you will need to have credited a cash flight booking to your Qatar account as well (can be any oneworld airline or partner such as BA).

The offers will be available monthly, with discounts of up to 25% on selected routes. The first monthly offer is valid for travel until 30 September 2026, and must be booked by 14 August 2026. Future months should follow the same pattern.

Only flights marketed and operated by Qatar Airways qualify for a Redemption discount. Flights operated by oneworld or partner airlines are not eligible. Availability is limited and offered on a first‑come, first‑served basis. All main members of the Privilege Club and Student Club can book Redemption discount flights. You can make unlimited bookings, with up to nine passengers per booking, provided you meet the criteria mentioned above.

So, how do you find these flights? Redemption discount flights are clearly tagged during award searches, shown in the Award Flight Finder and on the dedicated Redemption discount page when you are logged into your account. These must be booked through Qatar’s Privilege Club, not your BA account.

The discount is 25% off the standard non-Flexi Avios award rates for flights in any cabin. It does say that the Avios required may vary by membership tier, but so far we have not seen any evidence of this. You can also use Avios plus Cash.

Bookings including Redemption discount flights may be changed or cancelled up to three hours before departure. There’s a fee of US$25 per passenger if you cancel more than 24 hours before departure and US$100 per passenger if you cancel between 24 hours and 3 hours before departure. However, if a booking is changed to a flight or date that is not a Redemption discount option, it will be repriced at the standard award Avios level and additional Avios and fees may apply.

If you want to change a Redemption discount flight booking, the Member must cancel the current booking and make a new online booking.

This month the destinations on offer for business class are:

  • Riyadh
  • Cairo
  • Colombo
  • Berlin
  • Warsaw
  • Jakarta

The destinations vary by class.

The interesting part is that the discount appears to apply to the entire booking, not just the Doha segment to or from one of these destinations. So if you booked from London to Colombo, the discount would apply to both flights each way, not just the Colombo sectors.

You can find the award flight page here.

Avios shop changes

Avios Shop, is the online retail site that allows you to redeem Avios for a discount on many brands such as Apple, Dyson, Smeg and many more. Generally using Avios in this way is not great value, however, if you don’t want to use them for anything else, then it is worth a look.

Previously you could redeem Avios for a 25-50% discount on products. Now, members of The British Airways Club ordering retail products from The Edit by Avios Shop, will soon be able to discount the cash price of their order by up to 75% when redeeming Avios.

Alongside selling the latest Apple technology, from the iPhone to iPad, The Edit has expanded to now offer over 400 products, from 48 well known brands. Highlights include travel accessories, homeware and beauty products from names such as Antler, Dyson, Smeg and Garmin.

Here are some examples of the discounts:
  • Apple iPhone 17 Pro 256GB – £274.75 + 138,770 Avios (RRP: £1,099)
  • Smeg Espresso Coffee Machine – £175.00 + 88,385 Avios (RRP: £700)
  • Garmin Forerunner 570 – £115.00 + 58,080 Avios (RRP: £460)
You will also continue to collect 2 Avios per £1 on the cash element of the shopping, including when using Avios as part payment.

The full range of brands and products available to purchase can be viewed and purchased via the Avios App or at www.avios.com/en-GB/avios-shop

Wine Flyer Bonus and changes

British Airways Wine Flyer

One of the things I liked about the Wine Flyer was that, as well as various mixed cases of wine, you could also buy more sophisticated wines and spirits to get a decent Avios bonus. Sadly, IAG Loyalty has now decided to return to its partnership with Laithwaites as their official wine retail and delivery partner, undoing the separate in-house structure created in late 2022. If you look at the website, it already has a Laithwaites section.

In the meantime, if you want to make the most of it before the full changeover, there’s a limited-time bonus offer on any spend of £99 and up at The Wine Flyer plus free delivery.

Use offer code SUMMER3K to get  3,000 bonus Avios. The offer is valid until 11 am on 13 August.

The offer page is here.
