News: new BA TV program, extra BA St Lucia flights for redemption & strike rebooking options

New BA TV series

BA featured in a special program earlier in the year about its centenar called British Airways: 100 Years in the Sk. There is now a new TV program from the same production company called  “British Airways 24/7: Access All Areas”. The new series goes behind the scenes at the airline, following the fortunes of the business and the people who work to keep the planes flying and passengers happy.

The four-part series features exclusive access to all areas of the business, from the boardroom to the boarding gate. The first episode will be shown on Channel 5 at 9 pm on Thursday 5 September 2019. The episode will feature the man responsible for revamping onboard food, menu design manager Mark Tazziolli, and the new Heathrow to Osaka route launch. Future episodes will feature a visit by Her Majesty The Queen to  British Airways to mark BA’s 100th anniversary, the launch of new routes to Charleston and Osaka and the delivery of new aircraft from Boeing in Seattle and Airbus in Toulouse.

Extra BA flights to St Lucia

Sandals Grande St Lucian, St Lucia

British Airways has picked up the slack to St Lucia after Virgin announced that it is ending the route from June 2020. BA will introduce a twice-weekly flight to St Lucia from 4 July to 29 August 2020. This will feature World Traveller, World Traveller Plus and Club World seating.

If you were looking for somewhere to go on holiday next summer, there is plenty of availability during these dates for Avios redemptions in Club World. However, it is worth bearing in mind that these dates are within the Caribbean’s hurricane season.

BA pilot strike rebooking options and update

Yesterday we reported on our own experiences trying to get rebooked on our trips that are affected by the strike. RR reporter has now managed to get booked onto Qatar. The main moral of the story is if you don’t get the answer you want it is always worth a HUACA – hang up and try again!

BA have agreed to a wider list of rebooking options now on other airlines. The full list is:

  • Iberia, AA, Finnair, JAL, Malaysia, Qatar, SAS, Brussels, Egyptair, Precision Air, Cathay Pacific and Etihad, Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, Qantas, Tradewind Aviation.
  • Within Europe Aer Lingus, Air Baltic, Air Atlantic and Vueling are also allowed.
  • Between London and Los Angeles, Air New Zealand is allowed.
  • Between London and Newcastle, Leeds and Edinburgh BA can rebook via rail.

The official British Airways strike guidance is here.

Thanks for the update on strike re-booking options. You include “Between London and Newcastle, Leeds and Edinburgh BA can rebook via rail.” – is there any reason why this does not include Glasgow? I ask because I have a GLA-LHR-JNB booking for 28th September which is showing red in MMB at present – I suspect it is the shorthaul which is the problem. I would willingly transfer to rail to London if that was the case.

It’s only available with one rail company. LNER

Thanks, Michele – so I could go across to Edinburgh to avail of it, I guess.
