What’s happening in Vegas … all the news & openings + new video interview with Vegas experts Travelzork

  • 28/02/2021
  • Michele

Hopefully, it won’t be long before we are back travelling again and the US opens its borders to the UK. Given the falling infection rates and vaccination success, I’m hopeful we could be allowed back by mid-2021.

By the time we all get back to Vegas, a lot will have changed. At the end of last year a new hotel, Circa opened in downtown Las Vegas. Probably more of interest are the new Hilton group hotels including a Virgin Curio Collection one. There’s lots of information about the hotels and restaurant openings below plus a video with lots of interesting current Vegas perspectives.

I chatted to Las Vegas experts Michael Trager and Steve White from TravelZork about what Vegas is like right now, their top tips for Vegas accommodation, restaurants and gambling. You can find more detailed Vegas information on their TravelZork website, Facebook group and on Youtube.

We also talked about a big event in Las Vegas In December which TLFL readers may want to join. We plan to have a small get together of TLFL readers, possibly as part of my wider BA Facebook group.

What are the restrictions in Vegas currently?

From March, restrictions in Vegas will start to ease with some shows reopening. While capacities allowances on casino floors, and indoor bars and restaurants are currently restricted to 35% on 15 March, this will rise to 50%.

Spas are open for treatments but not for use of their facilities.

MGM Resorts has recently announced that 24/7 hotel and casino operations will resume at three of its Strip properties—The Mirage, Mandalay Bay and Park MGM from 3  March. Some resorts had been closed during midweek due to lack of demand.

It’s expected that restrictions will ease further by May.

What new hotels can we look forward to?

Resorts World Las Vegas – Hilton, LXR and Conrad Hotels

Resort Worlds

Resorts World Las Vegas and Hilton have partnered to bring three of Hilton’s premium brands together for the first time when the US$4.3 billion integrated resort, which is currently being developed, opens in summer 2021. As yet we don’t have an expected opening date, but it is expected to be this year in summer/autumn. The partnership marks Hilton’s largest multi-brand deal in company history and will include three Hilton premium brands, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, LXR and Conrad, into Resorts World Las Vegas.

Hilton Lobby

Resorts World Las Vegas seems to have been being built forever, but finally, it seems to be nearing completion. The location is at the end of the strip between the Fashion Show Mall and Circus Circus. Although it’s slightly out of the way, with 3 hotels opening on-site plus a theatre, shops restaurants and nightlife, there should be plenty nearby. It’s also not far from Wynn and Encore hotels.

Together, Resorts World and Hilton are bringing back the idea of The Las Vegas Hilton, once the largest hotel in the world and synonymous with gaming, conventions and entertainment in Las Vegas, with this multi-brand development. The original off-strip hotel was the home of the Star Trek experience. Before it left the Hilton group, the hotel was pretty run down and very much at the lower end of the spectrum. So let’s hope they don’t recreate that!

Conrad Lobby

As well as the Hilton,  this development also includes Hilton’s newest luxury brand, LXR, which delivers unrivalled, independent properties, along with Conrad, Hilton’s modern and design-forward luxury brand.

Conrad

Guests will have access to the resort’s premier facilities, including a 5,000-capacity state-of-the-art theater which is scalable to host A-list celebrity residencies and corporate events; 350,000 square feet of meeting and convention space; 220,000-square-foot pool complex with seven unique pool experiences; spa and fitness centre; an extensive collection of casual and fine-dining food and beverage concepts; and more.

You can’t yet book the hotels, but when you can, if you book through TLFL’s partnership with Debonair, you should get extra benefits through the Hilton Impressario program.

Resort Worlds pool complex

Crockfords Las Vegas, LXR Hotels & Resorts

Crockfords Las Vegas, LXR Hotels & Resorts will have 230 luxury guestrooms and suites, upscale amenities and highly personalized service.

Crockfords Las Vegas will mark one of the first LXR locations in the United States. LXR Hotels & Resorts, Hilton’s newest luxury brand with an expanding global portfolio, is a collection of independent properties with unique designs and deliver unrivaled travel experiences.

Guests at Crockfords Las Vegas can discreetly check-in and enjoy private access to their accommodations via an exclusive entrance and grand lobby. Integrated into Resorts World Las Vegas’s hotel tower, guests can also enjoy convenient access to the resort’s premier gaming, dining and entertainment offerings as desired.

Anchoring the grand lobby will be a spacious seating area with stylish settees and plush pillows, oversized armchairs and a chic bar. Twenty-six-foot vaulted ceilings dotted with shimmering mirror accents, a dazzling chandelier centerpiece and integrations of opulent stone encapsulate Crockfords Las Vegas’s attention to detail.

Crockfords Las Vegas, LXR Hotels & Resorts will be part of Hilton Honors, In addition to gaming salons conveniently located off the lobby, Crockfords Las Vegas guests will have complimentary access to the resort’s VIP pool and 24-hour, dedicated concierge assistance from highly trained service staff.

Crockfords Superior Guestrooms

The 550-square foot Crockfords Superior guestrooms offer a tranquil escape, featuring a chic color palette of soft platinum, taupe and nude tones dotted with burgundy and gold accents that perfectly complement the stone-topped cabinetry, custom upholstered headboards, and subtle carpet design. Each guestroom features one king or two queen beds and elevated amenities, including sophisticated minibar options. Upgraded bathrooms are designed with polished metal fixtures, a modern dual sink vanity, a separate water closet with a vibrant light blue glass enclosure, and Volakas marble with delicate veining.

Crockfords Superior Suites

Crockford’s collection of one- to three-bedroom suites range between 1,100 and 3,000 square feet. Adorned with contemporary décor, each suite offers open living and dining room areas, a bar and separate sleeping quarters with glamorous en-suite bathrooms featuring a generous soaking tub and glass-enclosed walk-in rain showers. Each suite type carries the theme of a refined, neutral color palette accented with black and gold to enhance the stone-topped cabinetry, natural wood details and subtle platinum carpet pattern. Each suite will feature thoughtfully designed walk-in closets with a full-length mirror, shoe shelving and drawer compartments, as well as a private powder room and upgraded amenities.

Crockfords Pool Villas & Palaces

For the most discerning guests who enjoy the finer things in life, two Villas and three Palaces will offer multi-bedroom, estate-style luxury retreats. Available with two, three or four bedrooms, these residential-style accommodations range from 3,300 to 7,000 square feet and showcase contemporary elegance with a soft, ethereal color palette with polished accents, curated artwork and sculptures and state-of-the-art technology. Discreetly tucked into the resort, each Villa and Palace features a serene outdoor garden and terrace for a completely private oasis with comfortable seating and dining areas and a pool and covered spa, in addition to an outdoor kitchen in the Palaces, making for a truly desirable atmosphere.

Crockfords Chairman’s Villa

The crown jewel of Crockfords Las Vegas, the Chairman’s Villa is a 6,000-square-foot private escape located on the 65th floor with a private balcony boasting panoramic views of the Las Vegas Strip. Designed with the comfort of a private residence in mind, this four-bedroom retreat offers an expansive living and game room with billiards, a fully stocked wet bar and connected powder room off the grand foyer for guests. The Chairman’s Villa also includes exclusive features such as a beautiful show kitchen with the highest-end residential-style appliances, as well as a private karaoke room with wraparound seating and state-of-the-art audio-visual technology, including a super LED TV.

Virgin Hotel Las Vegas by Curio Collection by Hilton

The hotel has now announced an opening date of 25 March 2021 and that there will be no resort fees. Resort fees are charged at many Vegas hotels for so-called extra benefits such as wi-fi or gym access which would normally be included in most hotels.

The Virgin hotel is off-strip so probably not ideal for the first visit to Vegas. The hotel is around 20 minutes walk to the strip but only about 5 minutes in an Uber. However, with plenty of amazing restaurants and entertainment on-site, it should be a fun place to stay. I have booked for later in the year. Rates start at $136  a night or  29,000 points which is very reasonable.

The integrated resort will mix a passion for food and beverage with music and culture and features three hotel towers totaling over 1,500 Chambers and suites; the 60,000sq. ft. Mohegan Sun Casino, operated by Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment; a five-acre desert pool oasis including a multi-functional event lawn; live music and entertainment theatre with 4,500 capacity; 24 Oxford showrooms accommodating 650 guests;

The selection of food and beverage venues includes Todd English’s Olives, Kris Yenbamroong’s Night + Market, the legendary Nobu, Michael and David Morton’s One Steakhouse, Kassi Beach Club from restauranteur Nick Mathers, Casa Calavera by global hospitality company Hakkasan Group, the sports entertainment, daylife and nightlife venue Money, Baby! from Justin Massei and Mikis Troyan of Clive Collective, famous Afters Ice Cream, Pizza Forte by the Ferraro Family and signature Virgin Hotels restaurants and bars including The Kitchen at Commons Club, The Bar at Commons Club, The Shag Room and Funny Library Coffee Shop.

Rooms will offer distinctive touches, exclusive to Virgin Hotels. Chambers (rooms) are designed to consist of two spaces separated by a privacy door. The first space, “The Dressing Room,” includes a full vanity, makeup desk with well-lit mirror, an extra-large shower, complete with Red Flower toiletries, and a closet for two. Open the privacy door and guests will enter “The Lounge” with the brand’s patented ergonomically designed lounge bed, high definition TV, pedestal table and a cozy seating nook. Ample outlets for smartphones, computers or other electronic devices are found in various areas of the rooms. All chambers feature custom lighting on sensors that automatically illuminate when guests move.

Select chambers will be dog-friendly, offering special amenities. Virgin Hotels has always been committed to the health and safety of guests and the brand is taking additional measures to ensure guests feel safe throughout their time on property. With the opening of the hotel, the brand is ushering in a new standard of hospitality with the upgraded mobile app Lucy that allows guests to have a truly “touch free” experience via mobile keys, controlling lighting, thermostats and TVs, ordering room service and the ability to check out, all from their own mobile device.

You can book the hotel via Hilton Hotels.

Circa

Circa is situated by the Fremont Experience in Downtown Las Vegas. Everything here is designed to be the biggest and the best.

Even if you don’t fancy staying here it will be well worth a look when you are downtown. The bar looks amazing! Circa opened last October. You can see Michael’s experience at the opening here:

I want to visit the Circa Bar which looks amazing. It’s– Located directly on Fremont Street Experience beneath the world-famous Viva Vision light show, Circa Bar is home to both dancing and flair bartenders who serve up 24 frozen cocktail flavors. Guests also can purchase souvenir glasses designed to look like Circa’s tower and Vegas Vickie.

Quick facts:

  • Vegas’ first adults-only resort
  • Country’s largest destination pool experience for sports fans, open 365 days a year with a 14-million-pixel screen
  • New-to-Vegas food & beverage concepts by renowned chefs and restaurateurs from across the country
  • Nevada’s longest indoor bar spanning 165 feet
  • First Las Vegas resort with a fully integrated rideshare

You can find out more about Circa here.

And finally

UK brewery, BrewDog are planning to open a rooftop bar with a pool in Vegas. Got to be an Elvis Juice beer in Vegas I think!

BrewDog Las Vegas anyone?

Currently in talks for this amazing roof top terrace location in the heart of the neon soaked Las Vegas strip.

A great video interview! It’s interesting to hear about what things are currently like in Vegas, providing a lot of a reassurance for those looking to travel with all the Covid-secure measures in place. The new resorts look awesome too. I’m looking forward to hopefully flying out in December! 😀
