New BA Club Suite on the A350-1000
  • British Airways

Which British Airways routes have First Class and/or Club Suites this summer?

  • 24/03/2021
  • Jenna Rank

As most of you are aware, British Airways announced toward the end of 2020 that they would be officially retiring all of their Boeing 747’s, a decision that was brought forward due to the significant impacts for the airline during the COVID-19 crisis.

Originally, British Airways announced they would be aiming to slowly phase out the ‘fuel hungry’, long-haul aircraft by 2024, in order to help meet their commitment to a ‘net zero by 2050’.

Affectionately known as the ‘Queen of the Skies’, the aircraft has become less popular over the years as many airlines switch to more efficient models. British Airways was, until recently, the world’s biggest operator of the 747-400s, and even refurbished the interiors of around a dozen not long ago.

That being said, the aircraft (which debuted with the airline in the late 80’s) were quite dated and many had called for a refresh over the years.

One of the main considerations for passengers now moving forward is that the availability of First Class on BA flights has been greatly reduced since the 747’s have been retired. Which routes will still offer First Class and Club Suites?

Don’t worry, we’ve done the hard yards and put together a list for you of where you can fly First Class or in the Club Suite (from London) for the summer 2021 season. We haven’t gone any further than that as things are so unpredictable.

Obviously, this still comes with a big caveat as routes and aircraft change all the time! But this is what is currently planned.

In this post:

  • Routes still offering First Class:
    • USA/Americas
    • Caribbean/South America
    • Asia
    • Middle East and Africa
  • Routes offering Club Suite:
    • USA/Americas
    •
    • Caribbean/South America

Routes still offering First Class:

New B777-300ER First

There are three basic styles of First, the older style seen on the B777s and A380s, the newer style on the B787s which does not have a buddy seat for dining and the newest Suite as seen above which is the B787 seat but with doors which is on the refurbished B777-300s which are currently planned to be on Los Angeles, New York and some Maldives flights.

USA/Americas

  • Atlanta (on all services except on the 787-8)
  • Boston (on all services except on the 787-8)
  • Chicago
  • Dallas Fort Worth
  • Houston
  • Las Vegas (only from Heathrow)
  • Los Angeles
  • Mexico City
  • Miami
  • New York (JFK)
  • New York (Newark) (on all services except on the A350)
  • Philadelphia
  • San Diego
  • San Francisco
  • Seattle
  • Toronto (only on the 787-9)
  • Washington

Caribbean/South America

  • Bermuda
  • Barbados
  • Cayman Islands
  • Nassau
  • Santiago, Chile

Asia

  • Beijing
  • Hong Kong
  • Male, Maldives
  • Tokyo (Haneda)
  • Shanghai
  • Singapore

Middle East and Africa

  • Dubai (on all services except on the A350)
  • Johannesburg (only on the A380)
  • Tel Aviv

Routes offering Club Suite:

New BA Club Suite on the A350-1000

The Club Suites are available on all the A350s and some of the B777s (not from Gatwick currently). The only route that BA guarantee will have a Club Suite is New York – JFK and Newark, but even that could change if there was a last-minute aircraft swap for a technical issue. B777-300 and 777-200 operate JFK services and A350, 777-200 and 787-100 operate Newark services.

You can tell prior to booking which flights have Club Suite by searching using Google Flights. When you look at the details of a flight, it will say “Individual Suite” for Club Suites. You can also tell with the seat map on ba.com. If it shows a 1-2-1 configuration it will be Club Suites.

USA/Americas

  • Austin
  • Chicago
  • Denver
  • Dallas Fort Worth
  • Houston
  • Las Vegas
  • New York (Newark)
  • Orlando
  • Phoenix
  • Vancouver

Caribbean/South America

Crane Beach Barbados
  • Argentina
  • Bermuda
  • Barbados
  • Cayman Islands
  • Nassau
  • São Paulo, Brazil

There’s no First on Toronto flights at the moment, due to aircraft changes I believe, having been downgraded to Club for end of June flights

Thanks so much, it says on the BA summer schedule that some Toronto flights will be operated on a 787-9 which is a four-class aircraft. Perhaps this has changed though, we shall look into it!

I’d love to know which ones, as I may be able to move to one of them if our downgraded June flight gets cancelled

London to tel aviv have first class

Thanks Michele, I originally didn’t include that one as we were mainly focused on ‘touristy’ destinations but I have added it. Cheers!

I second the Toronto comment. Was booked in First in September but downgraded to Club. Looking on Google flights, no direct First is showing. They all connect in PHL or ORD. Any advice Michele on when First direct is coming back to YYZ?

Surprised we haven’t had ‘outraged of Canada’ pointing out that Toronto and Vancouver are not in USA! 😉 (ditto Mexico) Should those 787-B refs be 787-8?

    1. Jenna Rank says:
      24/03/2021 at 12:53 pm

Good point, was thinking more of continent rather than country. Should have been ‘North America’. That has been fixed, would hate to upset anyone!

      24/03/2021 at 1:03 pm

BA refer to aircraft using a letter to denote the configuration hence B787-B but yes its a B787-8

Denver has First, at least for winter 21/22 (I have just made a booking)

    1. Michele says:
      24/03/2021 at 5:33 pm

This is only for summer 20/21

  6. RG1X says:

I’m currently booked on a flight to Austin in F… so I REALLY hope that you’ve made a mistake there!

      24/03/2021 at 5:34 pm

Are you travelling this summer? The article is only for summer 21?

  7. Phil says:
    24/03/2021 at 10:03 pm

We are booked back from San Diago first class on the 26th October, on a 777. I couldn’t get first class seats going out on the 8th. Using Airmiles.

    1. Jenna Rank says:
      25/03/2021 at 3:39 am

Hey Phil – so far we only have access to the details for the summer season, specifically June – August. Not sure how they will go later in the year, everything is still a bit up in the air. Hopefully they extend First to more routes by October!

  8. David says:
    25/03/2021 at 3:46 am

Unfortunately Nassau and Grand Cayman (same service) have not had First for a long time on the direct flight.

Checking out the new No 1 lounge at @heathrow_airp Checking out the new No 1 lounge at @heathrow_airport T2. Very impressed with the elegant feel to the lounge. It’s definitely a step up from the older style of No1. I’d go as far to say that it looks better than quite a few airline lounges. All drinks are included apart from champagne and there was a good selection of tasty food as well. Full review coming soon. #airportlounge #heathrowairport #luxurytravel #no1lounge
