9,000 Avios When You Add a Supplementary Card to your BA AMEX (Free Version)
American Express has just launched an excellent offer for BA AMEX cardholders who’ve never added a supplementary cardholder to their account. This is one of the best offers seen on a free card.
Until 25th August, you can collect 9,000 Avios simply by adding a first supplementary cardholder to your BA AMEX with no spending required. Considering this is a free card and the non-offer bonus is 5,000 Avios, a 4,000 Avios bonus on top of the usual bonus is a great offer.
For comparison, the BA Premier Plus card has no offer running for a supplementary cardholder, and the bonus is 3,000 points.
You can add up to five supplementary cardholders to the free BA American Express card, but you’ll only receive the bonus for the first person. If the person is already a supplementary cardholder on another AMEX, this does not remove eligibility.
Here’s how to add a supplementary cardholder to your account:
Oddly, the bonus Avios will appear in at least two instalments of 1,000 and 8,000 points. It may take up to 90 days for the 9,000 bonus Avios to be applied to your account, but this is rare.
As a reminder, with the free BA AMEX, you receive:
- 5,000 Avios when you spend £2,000 in the first 3 months of membership (only new cardmembers)
- 1 point per £1 spent on purchases
- A companion voucher when you spend £15,000 in a membership year
As a free product, no spend is required beyond adding the card. If you haven’t already added a supplementary cardholder, now’s the time to do it!
You must also use a specific page of the AMEX site to apply. You can view the page here.
British Airways to Launch Stansted to Chambéry Flights
BA has announced a seasonal ski route from Stansted to Chambéry, which will operate from 13th December 2025 to 13th March 2026.
There will be just one flight per week:
Route | Day | Departure Time | Arrival Time (local) |
---|---|---|---|
Stansted to Chambéry | Sunday | 08:40 | 11:20 |
Chambéry to Stansted | Saturday | 15:50 | 16:40 |
The route will be operated by an Embraer 190 aircraft (no middle seats).
If you’re looking for more options to Chambéry, British Airways also flies from Gatwick on Saturdays and operates weekend services from London City, all of which are run by Embraer 190s.
Keep in mind that Chambéry airport is not the best airport to fly in or out of. It can be extremely crowded, and transfers to major ski resorts can be long. Read our guide to the top ski destinations for more info.
BA currently has no lounge at Stansted, but you can use the Escape Lounge with your Business ticket, depending on availability.
Redemptions
When booking a redemption flight, there are typically two Economy and two Club Europe seats available for most dates. Business can be booked for 15,000 Avios + £12.50 off-peak or 16,250 Avios + £12.50 peak one way. Club Europe fares hover around £214.

Returning from Chambéry to London, there is less availability but still plenty of dates to choose from.
80% Bonus When You Buy IHG Points – Worth It?
IHG is back with another buy points promotion, this time offering an 80% bonus valid for purchases made by 1st August. It’s generally better to wait until a 100% bonus is offered unless you’re planning a short-notice booking where the rate paid with points is less than paying with cash. IHG typically runs a points promotion every month, with a bonus of 80-100%.
You can buy up to 200,000 points, giving you a balance of 360,000 with the bonus.
The bonus starts with purchases of 5,000 points or more. The more points you buy, the less you’ll pay per point:
- 5,000-10,000 points – 0.75¢ each (0.56p)
- 11,000-25,000 points – 0.64¢ each (0.48p)
- 26,000-200,000 points – 0.56¢ each (0.42p).
Points can be used for stays at one of the 6,600 destinations in the IHG portfolio. You can read more about the IHG One Rewards loyalty programme here.

For example, The InterContinental Singapore regularly prices at 52,000 points per night, with typical cash rates around £248. Buying points at 0.42p each means a redemption night would cost just £218.40, saving you £29.60 on the cash rate. If you opted for the Heritage Suite on the same night for 109,000 points, you would save £26.20 off the usual cash rate of £484.
This promotion is running alongside the 2,000 bonus every 2 nights or 8,000 bonus after 4 nights offer, which ends on 31st August. You can register for the offer here.
