Up to 50% bonus on Avios purchases
If you need to top up, there is a new bonus available through Qatar Airways Privilege Club when you buy Avios. The offer is available when you buy or gift Avios between 18 and 25 March 2025. The bonus varies according to how many you buy as shown below. The standard rate of Avios bonus promotion is 50%, so if you need a smaller amount, then I would not bother as the offers come up very regularly between BA, Aer Lingus, Finnair, and Qatar.
There are three levels of bonus:
- Collect up to 15% bonus Avios
When you purchase from 3000 Avios up to 16,000 Avios – 16,000 costs £296 and gives 18,400 Avios - Collect up to 25% bonus Avios
When you purchase up to 40,000 Avios – 40,000 costs £700 and gives a total of 50,000 Avios - Collect up to 50% bonus Avios
When you purchase 41,000 or more Avios – the maximum of 250,00 would costs £4375 and give you a total of 375,000 Avios

Easy Club Avolta Platinum status match is back
We previously wrote about an easy match for Club Avolta which gives a discount on Duty free and some airport restaurants/cafes. If you missed it at the time or didn’t need it, the match is available again.
Club Avolta (formerly Red by Dufry) will match your hotel or airline status to Club Avolta Platinum.
A large number of airline and hotel loyalty programmes qualify, including status with most airlines and mid-tier hotel status (e.g. Accor Gold). Be careful when you apply though as you can only do a match once and it is valid for one year only.

How to Match Your Status
- Sign up for Club Avolta using the website or app
- Complete your status match application.
- You will be notified within three business days whether or not your status match has been approved.
- Once approved, the Platinum status may take up to 5 business days to reflect in your account. Platinum status lasts for one year after signing up.
- Enjoy travel benefits. You receive the discount by scanning the QR code in the app at the till.

Melia Wonder Week
Every spring, Melia offers a week-long special savings event, and this year is no different. Sometimes, special offers pop up during the week on different days. Currently, they are offering up to a 25% discount, which is available for bookings far in the future as it is available for stays until the end of April 2026. You need to book by 24 March 2025.
You do have to be a member of the MeliaRewards scheme, but if you have an Amex Platinum card, you get free Gold status with Melia. This has some useful benefits, such as late check-out and extra discounts. If you have not tried Melia, they have a range of hotels from 5* downwards, and I particularly like their Executive lounge benefits called “The Level.” For example, in Alicante, they had a separate pool for the lounge.
