New Avios feature
The Avios app is gradually becoming more useful as they add extra features such as the availability alert we wrote about here. I recommend visiting the app on a regular basis as there are regular offers that often don’t get notified to you unless you go into the app.
The latest feature allows you to select a destination you are saving up for and shows you the amount of Avios that are needed with the different cash and Avios combinations. It will then help you find ways to meet your goal and show how much the options cost if there is a charge. It is quite useful to look up the price options of something quickly, but whether it alerts you when you reach the goal is not clear. I have set a target and will report back if anything happens when I reach it!
To use it :
You should see this message when you log into the app.
Once you click on set your goal it will ask where you want to go and then what dates. I am not sure the dates are super helpful since by the time you have collected enough Avios (unless you buy them), there may not be availability anymore.
It will then show you all the pricing options and how much you need for the cheapest option. If you have enough, you can click through to book. Otherwise, it will keep the option on your front page to remind you unless you delete or achieve it by clicking on the three dots on the right of the page when you go into the Avios goal page. It will also keep you updated on the availability on that page as well.
Two new Avios only flights
As I was booking my latest Marriott stay through the app (4 to 6 Avios per £1), I saw an alert about a new Avios-only flight. This is another reason to keep checking the app, as they don’t seem to send out emails for these flights anymore.
Avios only flights are where the entire flight can be bought with Avios rather than the set amount of seats that are usually released. As usual the dates coincide with half term. I really wish BA would deviate from this pattern and do an occasional flights where it is outside school holidays for people who don’t have school age children or don’t need to go in school holidays.

You can book the seats in the normal way for Avios redemptions.
