NEWS: British Airways extends status, 25% TP reduction and double tier points on BA Holidays

  • 21/12/2021
  • Michele

BA has been having a tough week with delays, baggage piling up, and staff shortages. So it’s great to be able to report three pieces of good news.

In this post:

  • Status Extension
  • 25% tier point reduction
  • Double tier points on British Airways Holidays extended
    • Like this:

Status Extension

Any tiered Executive Club Members with a Tier Point collection end date between 1 April – 30 June 2022 will receive another year of their current status.

It means that no British Airways Executive Club Member renewing during this period, including Bronze, Silver and Gold card holders will lose their Tier status, regardless of how many Tier Points they have earned.

25% tier point reduction

Another 25% threshold reduction in Tier Status has been applied for Members with a Tier Point collection end date until December 2022. This means that you only need to earn 25% of the usual tier points to retain or achieve status so it could be a good time to make the next tier level.

This will now make the thresholds:

Tier Normal threshold Adjusted threshold (75%)
Bronze 300 or 25 eligible flights 225 or 18 eligible flights
Silver 600 or 50 eligible flights 450 or 37 eligible flights
Gold 1,500 1,125
Gold Guest List 5,000 to qualify

3,000 to renew

3,750 to qualify

2,250 to renew

Concorde Room Card n/a n/a

Double tier points on British Airways Holidays extended

Members are also being given more opportunities to earn double Tier points with British Airways Holidays. Announced today, BA is extending its current offer, meaning that those booking a holiday package (flights + hotel and/or car) of five nights or more can earn double Tier Points when travelling before 31 October 2022 (formerly 31 March 2022). There is no-minimum spend and the offer applies to existing bookings and solo travellers.

There are a few things to note in the terms and conditions. It can take up to 60 days to credit the double tier points but in reality, many people are not receiving them at all and having to chase them. The offer is only for bookings originating in the UK and the hotel or car element of the booking must be booked for the duration of the trip.

There were several decent BA Holiday deals in the current sale, you can find the promotion page here.

Changed to 60 days now here is a copy of their statement.

Bonus Tier Points will be awarded separately to standard Tier Points and within 60 days of your return flight. Please note that we are currently experiencing a delay in awarding Tier Points as part of this offer, standard Tier Points continue to be awarded as normal.

Executive Club Members must add their membership number to their booking prior to travel in order to claim the bonus points.

I noticed this, although the T& C’s of the offer still states bonus TPs will be awarded within 30 days of the return flight. The delay will cause frustration for those awaiting a BAEC status upgrade.

Can confirm the fooling ( unhappily)
    1. They wont credit no matter how many eligible bookings made.
    2. They wont raise a ticket for it until +31 days
    3. Yes you’ll need a separate complaint for each of them ( even if handing them the details for multiple, valid, claims at once).
    4. No they wont credit within the revised timeline requiring further chase up.
    5. Can you guess what spent my time doing this winter season?

After escalating the issue due to impending TP year end I was assured that they “…have things in place to deal with such things” but as I pointed out in retort: You also said the double points should’ve just posted but here we are 10 odd weeks and several phone calls later. Mine did eventually credit, just, in time so I can’t say either way with any certainty – So hey, who knows. ????????

Happy Seasons Greetings to one and all

Thanks Clayton. Sadly you are not alone in having these issues.

It’s such a shame that, yet again, there is no acknowledgement for those who have retained status in their own right by travelling when there was no First Wing, no fast track security, no lounge access, no on-board catering etc. Is it too much to expect some sort of recognition; perhaps a lounge or flight upgrade voucher depending on the number of tier points achieved?

Welcome Back? I lever left – I’ve been here throughout.

Yes I know exactly what you mean. I felt the same with Marriott after making a big effort to make status then they just give it away.

Is there not a reduction on the tiers for GGL status?

    1. Michele says:
      22/12/2021 at 7:32 pm

Yes there is. It appears the table is not showing correctly on some devices. I will try to correct.

  6. Anthony Dunn says:
    24/12/2021 at 3:51 pm

I think that you mean that with the 25% tier points threshold reduction, you now only need to earn 75% of the previous number to attain a particular level.
