NEWS & OFFERS: IHG 80% Bonus on Points Purchases, Radisson’s new London Suite Escape Offer & British Airways Partners with Birchall Tea

IHG One Rewards Points Sale: Get 80% More Points

IHG points sale

IHG One Rewards has launched a flash sale offering up to an 80% bonus on points purchases – but you’ll need to be quick, as the offer ends on 3rd May 2025. This offer is targeted, so you’ll need to log in to your account to see whether the offer is available to you.

With the bonus applied, you can buy up to 200,000 points in one transaction – that’s up to 360,000 points.

Points can be redeemed at over 6,000 IHG hotels worldwide, including luxury brands like InterContinental, Kimpton and Hotel Indigo.

IHG HOTELS AND RESORTS BRANDS

You must purchase at least 5,000 points to get the 80% bonus. The value per point depends on the number of points you buy. 5,000-10,000 points can be bought for 0.75¢ each (0.56p), 11,000-25,000 at 0.64¢ each (0.48p) and 26,000-200,000 points at 0.56¢ each (0.42p).

Buy IHG Points

Buying points isn’t always the best value, but it can make sense if you stay at high-end properties where redemptions offer a better rate than cash bookings. It’s also a great way to top up for a specific award night or take advantage of Points & Cash rates. If you are going to go for this, I recommend purchasing at least 26,000 points to get the 0.42p per point rate.

Always run the maths carefully before buying. Award night pricing can affect whether buying points offers genuinely good value for your trip. There are some great value redemptions to be found that are significantly less than the cash price.

For example, the EVEN Hotel New York—Times Square South costs, on average, 83,000 points per night for a redemption. The cash rate is £429. Purchasing rates at 0.42p per point mean a redemption night would cost £348.60 – saving you £80.40.

An 80% bonus is good, but not the highest ever. Sometimes, a 100% bonus is offered, so if you’re not in a rush to book anytime soon, it may be worth waiting until then.

Click here to buy your IHG points.

Things to Note

  • Points are sold by Points.com (not IHG directly), so the purchase won’t code as ‘travel’ on your credit card.
  • Points usually post immediately, but officially allow up to 72 hours.
  • Purchased points and any bonus points awarded under this offer do not count towards IHG One Rewards Elite status.
  •  The Offer Period is subject to annual limits – 200,000 points in a calendar year (excluding bonuses).

British Airways Announces Birchall as Its New Tea Partner

British Airways has announced a new partnership with award-winning British tea producer Birchall, famous for its Great Rift English Breakfast blend. Chosen following blind taste tests and recognised for its strong sustainability credentials and British roots, Birchall is also the UK’s most awarded tea for taste.

British Airways’ Chief Customer Officer, Calum Laming, said:

“Last year, we served more than 37 million cups of tea in the air, and more than two million cups in our lounges globally, so we knew that selecting our newest tea partner was a decision we had to get right.”

From 1st May, you will be able to enjoy a range of Birchall teas across all long-haul cabins. The teas will also be added to BA lounges globally.

Birchall tea served in British Airways First Class

First Class will have a broad selection, including premium blends like Darjeeling, Mao Feng Green, and Red Berry & Flower.

Club World will have a curated menu of English Breakfast, Peppermint, Green Tea, and more. If you’re travelling in World Traveller or World Traveller Plus, you’ll be offered classic English Breakfast tea and its decaffeinated counterpart.

The Concorde Room tea menu will feature highlights like Great Rift English Breakfast, Virunga Earl Grey, and Peppermint Leaves. First and Club lounge guests will also see a refresh, with a good mix of traditional and herbal options to sip pre-flight.

From June, you’ll also be able to enjoy Birchall teas in Club Europe cabins, with Birchall teas added to the High Life Café menu for Euro Traveller in July.

Daniel Graham, Managing Director of Birchall Tea, said:

“We are immensely proud to be supplying tea for British Airways, which is the epitome of British quality and service; which is something incredibly important to us as well. We hope British Airways’ customers enjoy this elevated tea experience in the air and on the ground for years to come.”

This comes after BA’s recent announcement that prestige cuvée English sparkling wines will be served in First.

When comparing IHG points bookings vs cash bookings, I always factor in the points you would earn on a cash booking to see if there is a saving by using points. The points booking is also refundable and therefore comparable to a Best Flex rate.
The Kimpton Grand Cayman is still the best value points booking I’ve come across – 70,000 points (£280) vs an extortionate cash booking rate of up.to $1,400 plus tourism tax and service charge.

If they spent as much time on improving the hard product as they did in selecting cups of tea, I’m sure we’d all be much happier.
