Abu Dhabi terrorist attack near airport

Abu Dhabi has today been the subject of what appears to be a terrorist attack, possibly by drones. Three fuel trucks exploded, killing three people, and a fire broke out near Abu Dhabi airport on Monday. Flights were suspended for a short time but are now fully operational again. It is believed to be a terrorist attack which if confirmed could result in raised tensions in the area.

Due to Omicron and people working from home BA has again reduced its schedule including cutting flights from Inverness until 28 February.

A spokerperson for BA told the Inverness Courier “Like other airlines, due to the continuing coronavirus pandemic we are operating a reduced and dynamic schedule. We apologise to customers whose travel plans are disrupted. Where a customer’s flight is cancelled, we always contact them to offer options including a full refund.

“Customers who are unable to travel, or choose not to, can also continue to change their flights or request a voucher for future use as part of our book with confidence policy, which has been available since the beginning of the pandemic.

Other routes that have been cut temporarily include:

  • Basel – Until Thursday 10 February
  • Inverness – Until Monday 28 February
  • Luxembourg – Until Monday 28 February
  • Marseille – Until Wednesday 9 February
  • Seville – Until Thursday 10 February
  • Verona – Until Friday 11 February

The airline has also extended the suspension of some routes including:

  • Bilbao – Until Sunday 20 February
  • Bordeaux – Until Saturday 26 March
  • Marrakech – Until Thursday 10 February

Meanwhile Virgin Atlantic has the London Heathrow – Shanghai Pudong passenger route until 29 October 2022.

Amazing new Emirates video

If you enjoyed the last Emirates video with the cabin crew member standing on the top of the Burj Kalifa, you will love the new one. This one includes a flypast of the world’s tallest building as well.

If you wondered how they made the adverts (I thought it may have been CGI) then you will probably want to watch this interesting video of how they actually got the crew member up there safely. I’m just glad it wasn’t me!

  1. OMG, there is NO WAY you would get me up there !! Amazing video though. Lets see if BA will put someone on top of the Shard !!

Not a EK crew member but a professional sky diver …. There is a story on this from the first time that EK undertook the stunt ….. Repeating smacks of some desperation to fill seats !!

  3. As someone who lives in Inverness and travels for work, this is a real pain. They’re the only link we have to connect to other flights, without it it’s almost impossible.

My Hong Kong flight in early March got cancelled this morning. Was expected! The alternative flight they put me on was April 11th- which suggests to me that BA have been given an advance date of when HKG may re-open!!

    • Sadly it’s just guess work. Generally the airlines are taken as much by surprise as the rest of us unless it’s the country’s own airline.
