Airports gradually ease liquids rules

The mess with the rules on airport liquids continues with different airports operating different rules within the UK. The UK government’s deadline to install the new scanners was extended, but even those with the new scanners were subsequently informed that they would still have to implement the old 100ml rules. The new deadline is summer 2025, so I would expect all airports to be compliant very shortly. 

Now, airports are gradually beginning to ease restrictions after the DoT finally eased the rules. Presumably, whatever the issue with the new scanners was, it has now been resolved. However, I would advise checking the airport’s official website if you do plan to bring larger liquids, given how quickly things change. 

Even if they do not allow the larger liquids yet, I would expect other airports to follow once all their scanners have been replaced with the new ones. All the airports with new scanners at least let you leave your liquids inside the bag, and seem less fussed about how many 100ml containers you have. 

Here is the situation as far as I can see:

• Heathrow: T5 First Wing – up to 2 litres. This is not stated anywhere officially that I can see on their website, but has been reported by multiple travellers. But I would not try it with anything you don’t want to lose! Most of the other terminals have the new scanners, but Heathrow are sticking to the 100ml for unknown reasons.
• Birmingham – now officially allowing up to 2 litres
• Edinburgh – now officially allowing up to 2 litres
• Gatwick – all new scanners but only 100ml (as my fiance tested out when he forgot something in his bag!) 
• Manchester Airport – ‘vast majority’ of its passengers are screened by the new scanners,  which allow them to leave containers of up to two litres in their hand-luggage, however, during busy times, the airport still uses some of its older scanners in Terminals 1 and 3.
• Bristol, Leeds Bradford, Luton, Newcastle, Southend, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Southampton, and Teesside – new scanners but 100ml limit. Can leave everything in bag.
• Stansted, East Midlands – some new scanners

Hyatt sale up to 25% off

Hyatt has launched a new sale that covers multiple regions and offers up to 25% off. The good news is that there are no specific cancellation or pre-pay rules, so make sure you check what they are for the specific property. 

The offer varies by region:

For Asia/Pacific, World of Hyatt members can save up to 25% on qualifying stays between 6 July and 30 September 2025, at participating hotels in Asia Pacific. It is also worth considering asking a Hyatt Prive agent for a quote since they can provide extra benefits at the higher end brands. Certainly, in the US, they can offer sale discounts.

Hilton 750 Avios bonus for a stay

Qatar Privilege Club has a new simple promotion with Hilton where you can collect 750 Avios with one stay. They will be credited to Qatar, but it is straightforward for most people to transfer into their BA Avios accounts instantly.

You must be a Qatar Airways Privilege Club member and Hilton Honors member and register for the offer at https://www.hiltonhonors.com/en_US/qatarairwaysq32025/landing/ between 1 July 2025 and 30 September 2025 to be eligible to earn a 750 bonus Avios for the first hotel stay at any hotel or resort within the Hilton portfolio. 

You then have to complete your stay between 1 July 2025 and 30 September 2025.

You must also add your Qatar Airways Privilege Club membership number as your preferred travel partner in the preferences on Hilton.com prior to check out on their first qualifying stay. Also, the name of the booking must match the name on the Qatar Airways Privilege Club account and the Hilton Honors membership account to receive the bonus Avios.

It does not mention that you need to book after registering, so if you have an existing booking, I would register for the offer.
