Thanks for this, very informative. Since I’ve completely fallen down an Avios/BA Status hole, hardly use Virgin now, logged in and I’m still Gold, whoop and seem to have tonnes of miles!! La Premiere is my absolute bucket list, I’ve signed up for Flying Blue, is there a way to link the accounts so that I get Skyteam status or would I need to book a flight first to add the number? (Looking forward to the private jet info as this is also on my ever growing list!)
You just have to add your Virgin Flying Club account number to any Skyteam flights and it will show you as Elite Plus automatically.
We flew to Costa Rica [via Paris] with them recently. At the time I tried my V number was not recognised so we started an AF membership too. Perhaps we will be able to send the V miles over?
LHR T3 lounge not that good, a shared one so not AF. Paris lounge spacious & decent but full at one point & similar in Costa Rica. I prefer the BA lounges.
We were not individually thanked so I think they did know of your status actually. On the outbound flight my seat would not move so had to be done manually. The steward said he would do it for me but I asked him to show me how. Later he offered a choice of compensation – I chose 20,000 miles. Seems reasonable?
Food on the way back was not as good – the steak was overcooked & tough! Otherwise the food was decent, perhaps not as good as the the Iberia flight we took a few years ago but probably better than BA though although I thought the plates were cheap plasticky & unattractive.
Would certainly use them again, mainly because despite having to connect via Paris it was way cheaper than BA Club.
