NEWS: Earn & Spend Avios with Philippine Airlines, Virgin’s New Manchester Lounge Partnership & The Improved Oneworld Business Lounge at LAX

Earn and Spend Qatar Avios on Philippine Airlines Flights

Qatar Airways and Philippine Airlines have announced an expansion of the partnership first launched in June 2025. Privilege Club members can now earn and redeem Avios on eligible Philippine Airlines flights.

All activity must be done through Qatar Airways, but you can transfer onwards to programmes that also use Avios. This certainly makes Philippine Airlines a more compelling option.

You can book Philippine Airlines redemptions easily via the Qatar site. There is no fixed award chart, but it’s easy to see how many Avios your preferred flight will cost. We looked at many dates for Doha-Manila flights, and Business one-way tickets ranged from 75,000 to 120,000 Avios.

Generally, Philippine Airlines redemptions are priced at 18,000-154,000 Avios depending on the distance. They don’t yet fly to Europe, but there are 32 destinations in the Philippines and 40 across Asia, Oceania, the Middle East and North America to choose from.

Avios earning rates on Philippine Airlines flights when credited to your Privilege Club account include:

From 1st June 2026, Philippine Airlines will place its PR code on Qatar Airways flights from Manila, Cebu, Clark and Davao to Doha, allowing onward connections to more than 20 European cities via the codeshare partnership. Qatar will also add its QR code to selected Philippine Airlines domestic routes, including flights to Caticlan. You will benefit from your booking: one ticket, baggage checked through to your final destination, and simpler connections.

This is great news if you’ve been looking for more ways to use Avios in Asia or simply want an easier way to book flights to the Philippines. You can read our review of Philippine Airlines here.

This is Qatar’s 26th partnership. You can read more about the partnerships in our Privilege Club guide. Other partners outside of Oneworld include Bangkok Airways, JetBlue, RwandAir and more.

Virgin Atlantic’s New Manchester Lounge Partnership

Virgin Atlantic Upper Class and Flying Club Gold passengers flying from Manchester will soon have a more premium lounge option.

Virgin is partnering with The Executive, a lounge opening in the new Terminal 2, which is one of the last parts of Manchester Airport’s £1.3 billion transformation. The lounge opens on 17th June, and Virgin’s partnership will begin in July.

Executive by Escape is the premium version of the standard Escape lounge and Essence by Escape. You can look forward to floor-to-ceiling window views.

This may not be the Clubhouse Manchester passengers were promised before the pandemic, but it’s an upgrade over the 1903 lounge Virgin currently partners with. Once the lounge opens, the 1903 lounge will become part of the standard Executive Lounge.

There will be buffet-style dining, premium drinks, and barista coffee across three dining areas, including:

  • The Humm Salar Bar: fresh lighter options
  • The Leaf and Loaf: deli and bakery
  • The Loom: hot buffet with live cooking

A new premium seated dining area, The Boll, is due to be added by around Autumn. This area will incur an additional cost (£82.99 all-in for those paying for the lounge), but we don’t yet know whether this will be an upgrade option for Virgin passengers or included.

If you’re passing through Manchester Airport and want to try out the new Executive by Escape Lounge, lounge passes are not accepted, but you can pay to enter, with entry starting at £57.99 booked in advance, or £69.99 for walk-ins. The lounge will be open daily from 3:00 AM to 8:45 PM.

Any improvement to the premium experience is always welcome, though I do think Manchester deserves a Clubhouse considering the 30-year history at the airport. Hopefully, the dining is as good as promised, and the lounge does not get too crowded and keeps a premium feel.

The Refurbished oneworld Business Lounge at LAX

If you’re flying from Los Angeles on a Oneworld airline and have lounge access, you’ll now be able to experience the much-improved Business lounge following a major refurbishment.

The lounge is branded by Qantas but is shared between Oneworld airlines. You’ll find the lounge at Level 5 of the Tom Bradley International Terminal, and it’s open daily from 6:30 AM until midnight.

Inspired by Californian sunsets, coastal colours and palm tree-lined avenues, the space is noticeably brighter and more modern than before. New furniture and flooring have been added, the dining area has been improved, and more power outlets have been installed.

Thankfully, the distinctive retro fire pit remains in place. There’s also a better choice of seating options, from dining tables to lounge chairs and work-friendly areas. Capacity has also increased to 570 guests, up from 500.

Food and drink options include hot and cold buffet selections, a full-service bar, barista-made coffee and self-service hot and cold drink stations.

Other lounge options in the terminal include the Qantas First Lounge and the American Airlines Admirals Club.
